Even with Kevin Stefanski sidelining him in the last quarter, it was still a record-setting day for the Cleveland Browns‘ star rusher, Myles Garrett. He went for a career best and franchise record five sacks, pushing his season total to 10. But sadly, even that monster performance couldn’t save Cleveland from a brutal 32-13 loss to the New England Patriots in week 8. The frustration was clear in Garrett’s body language.

He was caught slamming his helmet in anger after the game slipped away, clearly indicating his frustration with Kevin Stefanski’s decision to send him to the sidelines in the latter half of the game.

“I want to win. I don’t care how much time is on the clock; they got their starters in. There’s a chance to win, I want to be part of that,” Garrett said in the post-game conference. “I don’t care how dire the situation looks. I’m going to make something happen, so I hate coming in the situation. I hate knowing that kind of inevitability and not being able to do anything about it. I want to win, I’ll do anything.”

Stefanski has caught plenty of heat after the rough defeat to the Patriots. The biggest backlash from fans and analysts? His decision to stick with rookie QB Dillon Gabriel. He scored 2 touchdowns but also tossed two costly interceptions. Despite all the criticism, Stefanski is unwilling to make a change under the centre.

“Browns HC Kevin Stefanski said he is going to ‘look at everything’ but is sticking with rookie Dillon Gabriel at QB,” ESPN’s Danile Oyefusi said while quoting Stefanski.

Frustartion brewing with Cleveland week by week

The Browns fans are reaching their boiling point right now. But honestly, it’s hard to blame them now. Week after week, similar faults show up. Shaky quarterback play, some head-scratching decisions from Kevin Stefanski, and an offense that just can’t seem to click. Myles Garrett and the defense are putting every ounce of sweat into the play, which gives some reason for the fans to buy the tickets.

Garrett was in action throughout the game. From slamming a helmet from the sidelines to becoming the NFL’s all-time leader in sacks for players under 30, he was relentless on the edge. He also managed to surpass Reggie White‘s 108 with 108.5. Kevin Stefanski nailed it when he said,

“Myles is a future Hall of Famer. So there’s other people, probably more accomplished than me, that can speak to what he looks like compared to one of the greatest in Reggie White. But what Myles does on a game-to-game basis, and I don’t think it gets enough notoriety, enough praise for what he’s doing in the course of these games, where he’s being doubled and triple-teamed. And so, he’s playing at a high level for us, he’s done this for a bunch of years. And at his age, to be able to say where he stands among the greats is pretty impressive.”

Myles Garrett is setting new franchise records with his stellar performance, but meanwhile, head coach Stefanski has difficult questions to answer about the team’s future.
