As the Cleveland Browns gear up for their London trip for Week 5, a few storylines have all eyes in the league focused on them. While the offense has been struggling to find its footing, the Browns’ defense has shouldered most of the burden to keep them in contention. But when veteran defensive end Myles Garrett got sidelined with an ankle injury, the concerns for Week 5 solidified. Now, there’s a definitive update on the team’s star pass rusher.

The doubts first crept up when Garrett missed Wednesday’s (October 1) practice nursing an ankle injury. However, he was elevated to a limited participant the next day. And now, Browns insider Scott Petrak has shared a one-line update that has sparked hopes for the Garrett faithful. “Myles Garrett will play.” As the Browns face off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, we’ll see Garrett back in action.
As Garett himself confirmed in a recent presser, the question of him not playing this Sunday never existed. “I’m a never say never kind of guy, so you’ll have to kill me to keep me from being on the field.” Facing off against a battered and bruised Vikings offense, Garrett looks primed to carve out a bigger lead for himself. His stats this season so far certainly live up to that hype.

Across four games in the 2025 season, Garrett already has 18 tackles and four sacks. Add eight quarterback hits and 12 pressures, and you know get a glimpse of the heat he will bring to London next. As the Cleveland Browns go 1-3 into Week 5 with a whole new offensive blueprint, Garrett’s return is more crucial than ever. Especially since his presence will take a lot of pressure off of rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel in his first regular season start. As for Gabriel stepping up into the QB1 role, Garrett has shared a big vote of confidence for the rookie.

Myles Garrett on Dillon Gabriel
From splitting scout team reps to rising to the QB1, Dillon Gabriel now shoulders the weight of expectations from a franchise still searching for a cohesive offense. But the decision to bench veteran Joe Flacco in favor of the young quarterback signaled the team is ready to place its hopes on him for some wins. Banking on that, Myles Garrett has praised what Dillon brings to the table. Speaking in a recent presser, Garrett noted, “He runs the offense like it’s his offense and that’s all you can ask for. … I look forward to him doing the same on Sunday.”

From the looks of it, Gabriel has already taken ownership of his role and started making his presence felt in the locker room. About Gabriel’s locker room energy, Garrett adds “has a youthful exuberance. He brings up just a different vibe, different attitude. And he just always has a smile on his face. He’s got a lot of energy. Looking forward to seeing how he moves around the pocket and how he plays the game.” Garrett is also fully aware of the pressure Gabriel will face, and is determined to help him.
As Garrett further added in the presser, “This will be a different pace than what he’s been used to. And he’s against the ones and it’s early on. We’ll be counting on him, but he can also count on us to be there to support him in each phase of the game. He doesn’t have to look forward to trying to take over or do too much. He just has to play within himself, execute the scheme, and allow the game to come down.” Garrett will be there to terrorize the Vikings’ offense. All Gabriel has to do now is stick to the offensive schemes, and carve out some points on Cleveland’s board. If he can do just that, Garrett & Co. will take care of the rest. We wait with bated breath to find out what happens next in London.
