In 1992, at the Barcelona Olympics, the USA decided to send its pro players to grab a medal. The average age of the team was 29. With fitness levels increasing monumentally in the last 3 decades. It’s not impossible to imagine that players on the older side would be able to compete. That being said, certain players will be too old to compete. Aaron Rodgers & Russell Wilson might not even be playing in the NFL in the next 5 years.

There might be some exceptional players who emerge in football, that we might not be aware of right now. So, we will restrict ourselves to 5 players who have been outstanding in recent times and have more than a fair chance to be performing awesomely in the next 5 years.

Quarterback: Patrick Mahomes

The quarterback is the most important position in flag football, as they are responsible for distributing the ball, making quick decisions, and avoiding the rusher. There is no better candidate for this role than Patrick Mahomes, the two-time NFL MVP, and Super Bowl champion. He will be 32 by the time the Olympics come knocking. The Kansas City Chiefs star is the leader and the playmaker that any flag football team would want.

Center: Travis Kelce

The center is the player who snaps the ball to the QB and then becomes an eligible receiver. They need to have good hands, route-running skills, and chemistry with the quarterback. Travis Kelce, Mahomes’ teammate at the Chiefs, and favorite target, fits the bill perfectly. The then 38-year-old has a great rapport with Mahomes and is the ideal center for a flag football team.

Wide Receiver: Tyreek Hill

The WR is the player who runs designated routes to catch a pass from the QB. They need to have speed, agility, and explosiveness to create separation and make big plays. Cheetah, a member of the Dolphins’ dynamic offense, is the epitome of a wide receiver. Tyreek Hill will be 34 when the Olympics come to the USA. He is a game-changer who can score from anywhere on the field. And he would be a nightmare for any flag football defense.

Running Back: Christian McCaffrey

The RB is the player who takes a handoff from the QB and runs with the ball or throws it. They need to have vision, elusiveness, and versatility to make plays on the ground and in the air. Christian McCaffrey the star RB for the 49ers is a dual threat who can run with power, speed, and finesse. He can also catch passes and throw them. He will be 32-year-old and can be a perfect fit for this role.

Rusher: Aaron Donald

The rusher is the player who attempts to prevent the QB from passing the ball. They need to have speed, strength, and technique to pressure the QB. Aaron Donald is a freak of nature who can overpower, outspeed, and outsmart any blocker. The DE for the Rams is a relentless and disruptive force who can sack quarterbacks and force fumbles. By then he’ll be 37-year-old and could be the defensive anchor and the game-wrecker that any flag football team would want.
