The Chiefs and Raiders rivalry is like your favorite drama series—always keeping us on the edge of our seats. But this time, the Silver and Blacks managed to keep their shade classy. No “Kermit the Frog” digs at Patrick Mahomes to stoke the fire (like they did in the preseason, and then Karma hit ’em). It’s unlike them, sure. But they just might have learned their lesson.

However, what’s even more surprising is that Chiefs Kingdom and Raiders Nation found common ground this week. No, hell hasn’t frozen over—they’ve teamed up to roast Amazon’s broadcast crew instead. So, what went down?

During the game, a punt play turned into a comedy of errors, starting with the officials initially flagging the Chiefs instead of the Raiders. Another, ‘Ah! Sh-t here we go again’ moment from the refs.

But after some head-scratching and a fix, the Raiders were allowed a re-punt. So far, so good? Not for Amazon. They missed the entire sequence because—wait for it—they were on a commercial break. Ba dum tss! And as you can very well make out by now, the fans did not give Amazon the free pass on this one.

Fans rip Amazon for blunder before Patrick Mahomes’ cooking sesh

Imagine this: you’re excited to see Patrick Mahomes and Co. against the Raiders to run it back again in the season. But the commercials interrupt the action instead. Now, c’mon man, no one signed up for that! Both fandoms came together like a rare alignment of the stars—united in frustration. One fan kicked it off, writing: “Amazon Prime and the refs causing an entire play to not be shown because they ran commercials instead. Streaming services hosting games is going great!”

Here’s the deal: with 6:50 left in the first quarter, Raiders punter AJ Cole pinned the Chiefs at the 1-yard line—so far, so good. A flag was thrown. But the refs seemed to say it was against Kansas City, meaning the Raiders could decline it and keep the play. Naturally, Prime Video cut to commercials. But surprise! During the break, the officials corrected themselves. Not just that, the viewers missed everything from the re-punt to the Chiefs getting a much better field position. One fan couldn’t resist calling it: “Oh man, social media is gonna go wild over the fact that the ref corrected an incorrect penalty for the Chiefs 😂 #ChiefsKingdom #BlackFridayNFL.”

To make matters worse, Amazon didn’t break out of the ad frenzy to show the second punt. Announcer Al Michaels casually explained the chaos after the fact, leaving fans fuming. “No one: An NFL broadcast: ‘Well, the refs made another mistake…’.” one fan joked. Yeah, because nothing screams “prime time” like missing a live play entirely.

And, of course, conspiracy theories about officiating lit up the timeline like a Patrick Mahomes touchdown. One fan vented: “Holy sh–, the Chiefs are being BAILED by the refs early. Punt redo due to ‘administrative error’ of the ref calling the penalty on the Chiefs instead of Raiders.”

But the fans were in a mood, and they not only dragged Amazon, but also memed the refs. One fan bluntly tweeted: “@NFL HIRE FULL-TIME REFS MAN IT’S NOT DIFFICULT.” And amidst all this chaos, who else but Mahomes re-wrote history books. Showtime surpassed Len Dawson with his 238th touchdown. The worst part for the Raiders? It was just a warmup for #15.
