Even though it’s been a more than a week when the league said, “With the 144th pick in the 2025 NFL draft the Cleveland Browns select Shedeur Sanders, quarterback, Colorado Buffaloes,” on the last day of the NFL draft, but those three days of Shedeur Sanders are still making waves on social media. Not even those three days, but some ‘expert’ opinions also came to light, with Mel Kiper picking him as the top draft pick. Well, Kiper’s opinion was fair to some extent, as the Giants and the Saints were the top landing spots for Shedeur. But Colin Cowherd’s advice for the Steelers before the draft was insane.

Before the draft, the Giants were the talk of the town. Though Brian Daboll’s team had Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, fans and experts were anticipating that the Giants were desperately waiting for a young and long-term QB. But fans witnessed how such speculations could be crazy. The Giants picked Jaxson Dart, which cleared the franchise’s strategy.

Another rumor was that the Steelers wanted Shedeur. With the Steelers QB room in chaos, everybody was expecting that the Steelers really wanted a QB like Sanders. Amid rumors of Aaron Rodgers’ potentially joining the Steelers and his delay in making a decision, many analysts thought Deion Sanders’s son would go with the Steelers. And during that period, Colin Cowherd made a crazy statement about Shedeur Sanders’ possibility of moving to Steel City. In a tweet, Dov Kleiman posted Colin Cowherd’s video calling his suggestion ‘the WORST trade proposal of all time‘, as the NFL analyst advised Mike Tomlin‘s team to trade for Sanders.

While making a wild proposal on January 15, 2025, Cowherd said, “The Steelers have been putting band-aids on for six years,” Cowherd explained. “I think they have to rip it off. I would trade T.J. Watt, George Pickens, and two first-round picks if your scouting department said, ‘Shedeur Sanders is the guy’, I think you have to go take the next big swing on this thing.” Cowherd take was surely something unexpected, and no one thought it’ll make sense for the team to let go of Watt and Pickens for Sanders in return.

Cowherd had more to say on the situation, though. “If you want to find the next Big Ben … To me, there are three teams in the league that are a quarterback away, the Colts, the Seahawks, and the Steelers. If you got the right quarterback, they’re pretty interesting teams. But there’s no recent history to make me believe that Pittsburgh would get aggressive.” He had also said that Cam Ward could be 1st overall and Shedeur could be the 5th or 6th pick. And surprisingly, only one of his predictions turned out to be true, which has now invited a huge backlash.

Fan couldn’t spare Colin Cowherd for Shedeur Sanders’ advice to Tomlin

One angry fan couldn’t even register the insane advice to the Steelers. “A take like this should get you fired. Or a permanent cohost so someone can stop you from speaking.” This clearly signifies people hated the idea of Sanders moving to Pittsburgh. It is clear they simply didn’t expect Colin Cowherd to come up with such a take. That’s why a fan said, “Sometimes Colin hits big, and sometimes he misses massively like in this clip. He’s still worth listening to tho, imo.” Well, other fans don’t think the same way.

A fan bashed Colin Cowherd’s take, saying, “How does he even come up with a trade that bad? Lmaooo.” The frustration from fans is clearly justified, the problem was not about Sanders getting drafted by Mike Tomlin and Co, it was more about the trade suggested by Cowherd. And this fan was, understandably, done after listening to the analyst’s take: “I wanna know how these people still have a microphone in front of them.”

Cowherd is no stranger to getting into trouble for making weird statements about anything controversial in the trends. Maybe that is why people make such statements. “Thank God he’s not a GM,” a football fan rightly said.

It could be his out-of-the-box or even wild thinking, but it didn’t land well, not even after the draft had wrapped up. Let’s see if Colin Cowherd learns from the misstep he made when speculating about Shedeur Sanders’s eventual landing spot.
