Another week, another shocking display from the Patriots. If you stopped watching New England since Tom Brady left, and thought would catch up on how they’re doing. Well, you’re in for a generational surprise. What happened to the Pats? Yup, that’s one question many have been asking. Even during the week 8 clash against the Jets, calls for dropping Jerod Mayo just raised in decibels.

Watch What’s Trending Now!

Take former football coach Rex Ryan’s rant, for instance. He went off, targeting Mayo for calling his team soft as he said: “If your team’s soft, as you put it, that’s on you… Your team stinks!” OUCH!

You can say that it’s not been a year since he took the reins after Bill Belichick left so the fans must remain patient to see the change happen. But the Pats Nation is losing patience.

See, the thing is, following up on what Bill and Brady built together—a dynasty—was never going to be easy. Back then, teams were afraid to face them. Now? Teams are practically lining up for the chance. They want to face them. Yikes. That’s the kind of downfall that’s hard to ignore.

Sure, it’s been a tough first season for Mayo; despite a week 1 win against the Bengals, the Patriots have since dropped six straight games. But then, you don’t keep making similar mistakes again and again. And again!

That’s why there’s agitation in the fandom as many took to their socials to rant about Mayo’s poor play-calling against the Jets.

Pats Nation wants Jerod Mayo OUT!

What has made Jerod Mayo’s life a living hell in Foxborough, after the team’s abysmal start, is the fact that Dan Quinn’s oozing positivity in his debut season in charge of the Commanders. The pressure on Jerod Mayo in Foxborough is mounting, and Pats Nation isn’t holding back. Dan Duggan from The Athletic couldn’t resist commenting, “Kind of funny that Mayo has been the coach in waiting for years, and he absolutely needs to be fired after one season,” hinting at the available candidates with Pats ties like Vrabel and Flores.

Fans had plenty to say about Mayo’s conservative play-calling, especially after the Pats chose not to put together a drive in the final 1:40 of the first half, down by six with two timeouts. One fan raged, “Jerod Mayo is f–king soft. A minute and 50 seconds left… and you run the clock out down by 6. You stink👎.” Mayo’s decisions aren’t exactly comforting the fans desperate to see the Patriots play with their old fire.

Then there are those questioning Mayo’s very credentials, suggesting his ties to Bill Belichick might have earned him his spot more than his experience. “Jerod Mayo feels like a nepotism hire without the actual nepotism part… never coached for anyone but the Pats,” a fan noted, calling his lack of varied experience into question.

Some believe he’s just lost out there. “Seriously—Jerod Mayo does not know what he’s doing. Isn’t it obvious?” one fan bluntly put. Even a win over the Jets didn’t settle these doubts; fans still feel this isn’t the “Patriots way.” Scrapping out a 25-22 victory over a weak Gang Green? Yeah, fans want no piece of that. Mayo has to be fired. Honestly feels like they are intentionally losing at this point.”

So, what now? It’s do-or-die for Jerod Mayo. He can prove he’s got what it takes to stay on. Or then there’s the other side where, you know, the Patriots take a hard look at other coaching options. What do you think it’ll be? The clock’s ticking.
