The Commanders and Ravens’ week 6 clash saw Jayden Daniels cooking in the first half. But that was on the gridiron. Off it, from the broadcasters’ room, Tony Romo was overcooking. Basically, he spoilt it, as fans could not help but highlight how he kept calling the Washington with their controversial name.

Well, it’s not just that, though. He has also been called out for repeatedly pointing out similarities between Daniel’s style of play to that of Chiefs star, Patrick Mahomes. And it’s not something that the pigskin fanatics are here for.

And it’s not like this is the first time Romo’s commentary has come under fire. If you’ve been keeping up, you know it definitely won’t be the last. Remember when he got roasted during the BengalsChiefs game?

Mahomes made a smart play, threw the ball away to avoid an interception, and Romo called it a “winning play.” That makes sense, right? But fans? Nah, they weren’t feeling it at all, especially from the guy who has played under center, and that too for the America’s Team (spent his career in Dallas, from 2006 to 2016). Fans expected better.

But this week’s slip-up is rather huge. Hmm, one can say Romo just took it to another level. While calling the CommandersRavens game, he accidentally referenced Washington’s old, offensive nickname while breaking down a Lamar Jackson pass. Oof. But hold on, there’s more.

And to make it worse, neither Romo nor Jim Nantz even acknowledged the slip-up. You can guess how fast fans jumped on that one.

Rough day in the office for Tony Romo

Coming under the radar of netizens? Yeah, that’s a rough day, and Tony Romo is feeling it big time. During a live broadcast, Romo slipped up, referring to Washington by their old name—the one that’s a racial slur. Oops. A fan on X was quick to call him out, saying, “Tony Romo can’t resist himself calling them the Redskin.” Yikes. With how fast information spreads now, there’s no shaking that off anytime soon.

In 2024, it’s pretty much a non-negotiable for NFL broadcasters to call the Commanders by their correct name. But Romo didn’t stop there. He made things worse when he compared Jayden Daniels’ touchdown pass to a “Mahomes-esque” play. Cue the eye rolls. One fan wrote, “Bro said Mahomes and Josh Allen, I swear to god if you don’t shut the f-ck up Tony Romo.” And yeah, fans were not happy, piling on their frustrations as the game went on.

Another fan wasn’t having it either, saying, “QB X makes a standard throw *Tony Romo/Chris Collinsworth: ‘That’s a Patrick Mahomes type of play right there!’” Sure, Patrick Mahomes is a beast, but not every throw has to be compared to him, especially for rookies just trying to make a name for themselves. It’s kind of unfair, right? Let the kid breathe!

As one fan perfectly put it, Tony Romo, everything Daniels does, is not a Patrick Mahomes type play. Let that man ball out and be great without being compared to somebody else.” And honestly, that’s spot on. In football, like Marv Levy said, “Football doesn’t build character, it reveals character.” So, why not let these QBs reveal their own style instead of chasing someone else’s?
