An unexpected deal happened this Wednesday, April 3. The Houston Texans acquired Stefon Diggs, the top wide receiver prospect, from the Buffalo Bills. In return, they received a second-round pick from the Texans.

As per the reports, this trade has the potential to change the balance of power in the AFC, impact the strategies of both the involved teams, and put the spotlight on Diggs, who was currently almost every team’s favorite. Probably, that’s why the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive tackle, Cameron Heyward, had a wish regarding Diggs.

In the latest episode of The Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday, April 3, Steelers DT Cameron Heyward joined guest host Jim Jackson to discuss the future of the Texans after Stefon Diggs’ trade. Heyward wished, “I wish he would have got traded to the NFC. Diggs is always a problem, but you look at what the Texans are doing; you got him, you got Nico Collins, you got Tank Dell, then you got our Buckeye in the Middle with CJ Stroud, and I just think they got a lot of pieces….and now you just added another player to what was already a good team going into this year, but the future is bright for the Houston Texans.

Heyward also mentioned the addition of Joe Mixon, which he thinks balances the team’s offense by giving them options to run or pass. He acknowledged that the defense remains a question mark for the Texans. However, Heyward sees a bright future for the team with Diggs onboard, as he can provide reliability and serve as a security blanket for the quarterback, similar to other top receivers in the league. The Steelers defensive tackle emphasized the importance of Diggs building a strong connection with Stroud, similar to the one he had with Josh Allen, which could pose problems for teams in the AFC South.

So, now the question is whether Diggs will stand up to the expectations of this offseason?

Acquiring Stefon Diggs or others might not be enough for the Texans to perform well. There are several other factors that the team needs to look at. There is still uncertainty surrounding how the new offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik, will utilize Diggs and how he will connect with Stroud, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Diggs had an impressive start with the Bills, maintaining a high level of performance in the first 10 games of the season under offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.

However, when Dorsey was fired and replaced by Joe Brady in November, Diggs’ production declined significantly. He “averaged 45 yards per game the rest of the year (43.1 including playoffs) and scored just once in seven regular-season games and zero times in two playoff contests.” Despite this, the team’s overall performance improved towards the end of the season, and they reached the playoffs.

So, Diggs’ presence might have positively impacted his teammates, but his vocal personality might not fit well with a team whose success is inversely related to his performance. Fans now await his stint in his new home, the Texans.
