Will the Giants pick up Shedeur Sanders in the draft? Could Abdul Carter go third overall? And if Shedeur ends up on the New York squad, who’ll be the starting quarterback? Too many questions swirling around the Giants right now. But one thing is almost certain: they’re not drafting a QB in the first round. And while the QB1 spot is still up for grabs, it seems the Giants’ tight end has already made his choice.

With practice sessions underway, Giants tight end Theo Johnson spoke with NFL reporter Madelyn Burke about his experience working with the new quarterbacks. Johnson had high praise for Russell Wilson—and sent a pretty clear message to the front office. According to Burke, “Theo Johnson says he participated in the throwing session with Russell Wilson in Atlanta, ‘from the very first interaction with him you can tell the guy knows a lot of ball… he loves football and every aspect of the game, which is infectious.’” Looks like the former Steelers QB might just win this QB competition, huh?

Actually, the place where they are (and will be) having a great time is enough to make Wilson happy. He won the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium when he was with the Seahawks 12 years ago. And that’s why when the Giants acquired him in March, he first remembered his Super Bowl day and said that he wanted to be a starter. And it looks like a fair deal as 2025 will probably be the last year of Russell Wilson’s career. People can’t imagine a guy who started nearly 199 games not going to be a starter.

In 2024, he initially missed a few games because of a calf injury but led the Steelers to the playoffs after starting the first game on October 21, 2024. After starting the first game, Wilson helped the former team win six out of seven games in total. But this story also has a flip side. Due to the turnovers and lack of quickness, the 36-year-old could win the last five games of the season. He received a lot of backlash after the back-to-back losses, while fans wanted him to retire. But even with that, he fought back at extremes and took a flight to New York. Now, let’s see what decision Brian Daboll‘s franchise takes for the QB1 position.

But while the decision is yet to come, Russell Wilson’s former teammate has also sent a message to the NFL world about the QB’s Broncos stint. Let’s check it out.

Russell Wilson’s Broncos days and teammates’ clear analysis

The Broncos Wire recently published an article emphasizing how perspective shapes our opinions of others. In Russell Wilson’s case, he faced significant criticism from teammates during his time with the Broncos (2022–2023). However, former teammate Dalton Risner has since addressed the controversy.

The Guard began, “This dude grinded. You wanna know why everyone said he had a parking spot at the Denver Broncos facility? Because Russell Wilson was the first one there and the last to leave.” He added, “You wanna know why everyone said he had an office? Because Russell Wilson was grinding. He was a great leader.” Russell Wilson played just 30 games for the Broncos but still managed to leave a lasting impact.

Now, after 10 NFL seasons with the Seahawks, two with the Broncos, and one with the Steelers, just imagine the experience he brings as he starts a new chapter with the Giants. It’s going to be exciting to see how his stint in New York unfolds.

But here’s the catch: What if the Giants draft Shedeur Sanders instead of Abdul Carter in the first round? We’ll find out soon enough on Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
