The Cardinals’ first half was a train wreck, and it somehow managed to end even uglier than it started. Down 14-3 to the Seahawks, their offense sputtered, their defense bent, and then Kyler Murray capped things off by getting sacked again: courtesy of Seahawks’ defensive end Leonard Williams. Arizona burned a timeout with two ticks left, and the home crowd let them have it with boos pouring down. And HC Jonathan Gannon was quick to point fingers.

We’re getting killed in the explosive play battle, so we got to do a better job on defense of stopping them, and then we got to generate some on offense. But on offense, we got to get in rhythm. … They’re all playmakers. We got to get them the ball, get them in space, and get going,” Gannon said.

The Cardinals’ offense is being asked questions ever since that 15-19 loss to the 49ers. Understandably. They only accounted for 260 yards in San Francisco, and are yet to record more than 300 years since the season started. When the question was thrown at offensive coordinator Drew Petzing‘s face, he said the criticism comes with the job. And it feels like the Seahawks’ game isn’t going to slow it down.

Yes, it seems unlikely that they’d record more than 250 yards tonight. Up until halftime, they have only accounted for 107 yards. And quarterback Kyler Murray is one of the reasons why. He has completed 13 passes for 22 attempts, 79 passing yards, zero TDs and two picks. This is a problem.

Oh, and to add to the misery, there were 3 Cardinals players with more than six targets, and less than ten receiving yards ( Trey Benson, Michael Wilson, and Marvin Harrison Jr.). At this point, pinning the blame on one person doesn’t really do justice to the mess this Cardinals offense is. Jonathan Gannon and Drew Petzing have quite a task up their sleeves. And the first step might be to figure out what’s wrong between Murray and Harrison.

Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. aren’t clicking

If you looked at that quarterback-wide receiver connection between Murray and Harrison, you’ll start to wonder if they even practice together. Last week wasn’t exactly Marvin Harrison Jr.’s highlight reel. He had a gift-wrapped deep ball from Kyler Murray and flat out dropped it.

And it seems like it wasn’t a one off. He gave up yet another turnover tonight. Harrison had a perfect ball zip right into his hands over the middle, and he bobbled it. When he tried to corral it, the ball popped up and gift-wrapped itself straight into the arms of Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV for an interception.

These drops are obviously more on him than they are on Murray, but this is not about playing the blame game. It’s points to a broader concern about Murray and Harrison’s chemistry. The two just haven’t clicked yet. Prior to his drop in San Francisco, Earlier, Harrison and Murray weren’t even reading the same book, let alone the same page. Murray expected him to break off his route, Harrison kept sprinting upfield, and he ended up tossing the ball to a patch of empty grass on the right sideline.

Cardinals are still 2-1 right now (looks like it’s going to be 2-2 tonight). But these two need to work out it. He’s still a second-year, and there’s a high ceiling that needs to be climbed. And it all starts with developing that trust with his quarterback. Let’s see if they can work it out in the second half.
