Carolina Panthers Target Tua’s OC After Completing Talks With Lamar Jackson’s Coordinator

The 2-15 Carolina Panthers of this season fired their coach Frank Reich last year. And since then they have been on a hunt to find themselves with a new coach who can totally shape the team into a strong & prepared team for the 2024 season games. And recently, they added a new name to their interview list.
Last time, the Panthers interviewed Lamar Jackson’s OC Todd Monken for the head coach job. Now, the reports are coming out that the latest addition to their name is Tua Tagovailoa’s offensive coordinator, Frank Smith. Here’s the details!
Frank Smith is another option for the Panthers?

According to the reports, the Panthers recently finished its fifth virtual interview for the vacant head coaching position, meeting with Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith. Previously associated with the Saints, Smith joined the Dolphins in 2022 and played a key role in leading the team to top the league in total offense (401.3 offensive yards average) this season. Additionally, some hours ago, the Seattle Seahawks too had officially requested Smith for an interview for their HC role.

Meanwhile, the Panthers have conducted a total of four virtual interviews, including Smith. The other three are notable names like Ravens OC Todd Monken, Panthers DC Ejiro Evero, and Ravens DC Mike Macdonald. In-person interviews are set to commence on January 22, with this week’s virtual sessions limited to coaches from non-playoff teams or those with playoff byes. Interviews with coaches from teams playing this weekend can only begin next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Apart from them, Carolina has also requested permission to interview some other coaches of different teams.
Who else is on the Panthers’ interview list?
The Panthers have plenty of options when finding a new coach for them. Besides Todd Monken, Frank Smith, Ejiro Evero, and Mike Macdonald, recently, they officially submitted a list of six coaches, with whom they have officially sought permission to interview for their HC role.

The list includes: Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson; Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan; Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik; Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn; Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris; and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales.

It is also reported that the virtual interview might happen on Zoom before January 22.
