It seems like the fake Cam Newton’s taking over! Kendrick Bourne just wanted a chat with fellow NFL star Cam Newton after the latter’s brawl came to light. However, the Patriots wide receiver got a wild surprise when he facetime someone who clearly was not Newton.

Bourne’s brush with the fake Cam Newton left the internet in splits. The incident was also a reminder of last season’s beef between Deebo Samuel and a catfish impersonating Newton. The confusion all started after Samuel got multiple texts from someone pretending to be Newton, which unleashed a back-and-forth between the two.

Quarterback Newton was caught fighting the TSP crew in a viral online clip. Though the why and where of the brawl remain unknown for now, Newton might be facing a suspension following the incident. Bourne called up Newton after the fight but instead met someone totally new!

This lighthearted interaction was an excellent refresher for the fans after the intense talks of trade being at the forefront of this offseason. However, this incident also served as a reminder of Samuel’s not-so-playful reaction to a catfish prank last year.

When Deebo Samuel fell for a Newton catfish

Last year in December, Samuel called out the quarterback publicly and asked him to stop texting him. On the Up and Adams Show, the 49ers player said, “Cam Newton, stop texting my phone. You was a fan like two weeks ago; that’s mad crazy. You wanted me on your podcast after talking about my QB, which is funny to me.”

A confused Newton responded quickly and denied ever contacting Samuel through the phone. He further asked for receipts, which Samuel gladly provided. Despite things looking bad for him, Newton persisted and affirmed, “Stop the cap, bro. I don’t got your number.” Samuel wasn’t ready to back down and showed a text exchange as proof of the interaction. However, the WR would soon realize his folly.
