There have been a lot of tragic stories surfacing from the San Francisco 49ers side of the NFL but none as heartbreaking as this. The cornerback Charvarius Ward’s daughter passed away after battling heart problems and it’s quite a dark day for Ward and the football world.

The pain of a mother cannot be described in words. While Ward addressed the death in his recent Instagram post, his girlfriend Monique Cook expressed her grief at the loss of her precious daughter. MLFootball shared what the mother of Amani Joy has been going through since the loss and it might bring a tear to a lot of people’s eyes.

MLFootball took to X and posted, “Heartbreaking: #49ers DB Charvarius Ward’s girlfriend Monique Cook had a heartbreaking message posted on her IG after their baby Armani Joy passed away. ‘My baby. God why?’”

The picture shows Monique Cook holding Amani as she smiles looking at the camera. Ward explained that his daughter was born with Down syndrome and also had two holes in her heart that required surgery. Following the sad loss, the San Francisco 49ers also broke the silence with a personal message that embodies Amani’s spirit.

“Amani truly embodied pure happiness and brought joy to all those around her with her sweet demeanor and contagious laugh,” the team said in its statement. “We will continue to grieve with Charvarius and Monique while sending them our love and support during this unimaginable time.”

It’s saddening to know what the Niners cornerback had to endure all that and still had to play in the game against the Dallas Cowboys. Following the harrowing loss, Ward paid tribute to his daughter in an emotional Instagram post.

Charvarius Ward mourns the loss of his daughter

Ward’s IG post from a couple of weeks ago highlights how crucial of a role his daughter played in his life. While many people see Down syndrome as a “handicap,” for Ward, it was a gift from the heavens. If anything, being a father to Amani has taught the cornerback “patience & how to surrender & let things be.”

Knowing that his daughter was battling with heart issues was an emotional roller coaster ride for Ward. He went from feeling sad to angry to feeling joyous watching his daughter’s life unfold after the surgery. Amani died Monday morning and the saddest part about the ordeal was that she was supposed to celebrate her birthday two weeks from now.
