In the past few weeks, two quarterbacks found their new home, that, too, in the same team! The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, giving depth to their quarterback position. While the Steelers seemed to be satisfied with the trades, the Chicago Bears‘ position isn’t settled yet.

The Bears traded their 11th overall draft pick, Fields, for a conditional sixth-round pick next year. The team’s decision seemed impending as they have the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft, where they hope to pick from among the top college quarterbacks. However, one former NFL star feels that Chicago made a huge mistake.

In a recent podcast, Keyshawn Johnson was asked about his opinion on the recent trade by the Steelers. While the former wide receiver opined that getting Wilson and Fields might fare well for Pittsburgh, Chicago shouldn’t have let go of their quarterback. Johnson said if the Bears were dead set on drafting a QB, they should have done so and got both Fields and the new rookie on their roster.

I got a guy who’s played three years in the National Football League that the Chicago Bears certainly should have never fu****g got rid of,” Johnson said. “If they was going to draft one of these quarterbacks, brilliant! They should have just drafted Caleb if that’s what they was gonna do, or they should have drafted Jayden if that’s what they gonna do. at the end of the day, you got them both on your roster.”

Johnson further mentioned the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, as teams that made two quarterbacks fight it out. The 49ers had Joe Montana and backup Steve Young, while the Cowboys drafted two QBs in 1989, Steve Walsh and Troy Aikman. Walsh was picked from the supplemental draft and was traded later. Johnson feels that Chicago “tripped out,” and they should’ve let the two QBs battle it out.

Pittsburgh now has two new quarterbacks on their squad: Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. And Johnson appreciated this move as the team “hit on both ends of the spectrum.” He explained that the Steelers now have a veteran player who will act as a “bridge for the next couple years until Justin is ready.”

Is Fields a good decision for the Steelers?

Johnson further stated that Fields is fairly young, being just 25 at the moment, but has played in the league for three years. According to the former WR, he’ll gain the further experience he needs and act as an able backup for Wilson. Justin Fields said his goodbyes to Chicago through a post on X as he starts a new chapter in his NFL career.
