Isiah Pacheco has truly embodied Andy Reid’s offensive strategy this season. The Kansas City Chiefs‘ star running back has given his team a much-needed edge in the ground attack. But then came the MCL sprain in Week 8, putting the team’s backfield in a spot. Now, the head boss must act in time to keep their winning streak alive. Rumor has it that he just turned to a rival RB. Really?

As the 2024 NFL trade deadline ends on November 4, Kansas City must find a reliable rusher to balance its offense. Now that Isiah is off the list, Reid may rope in a running back from a rival AFC team. We’re talking about Breece Hall, the talented running back from the New York Jets. He’s someone who could bring both power and versatility into Andy’s defense unit.
With the Jets, Hall’s potential is not fully utilized, and one of the main reasons is the franchise’s struggling offense. The 24-year-old athlete hasn’t found his rhythm in the squad, putting up some solid performances. He was on fire in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, running for 133 yards and recording two touchdowns.

The Iowa State alum can level up under Reid’s offensive leadership and alongside Patrick Mahomes. Currently, the player is under a four-year deal with the Jets for $9 million that he signed in 2022. The contract includes over $7 million guaranteed, with a base salary of $3.41 million. It’s a sound deal for Kansas City, which is looking for short-term help.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are still reeling with Isiah Pacheco’s absence after MNF. The player injured his knee in the second half of the 28-7 win against the Washington Commanders last week. Now, the team’s depth is under a test as we move to Week 9, in which the Chiefs will clash with Buffalo. What’s the way forward?
Isiah Pacheco leaves a gap ahead of Week 9
It goes without saying that Pacheco has been a fierce rushing attacker for his team. The man in red has recorded 329 rushing yards on 78 carries this season and 2,900 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns overall. But as he must rest and recover, the Chiefs must strategize to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 9.
The timing is already looking terrible for Andy’s squad. A quick turnaround from Monday’s game gives the team little time to adjust their running backs and explore trade options before the next one. On a bright note, the upcoming bye week will offer a window for the Chiefs to analyze their roster and finalize a mid-season trade.

While Isiah Pacheco is out, the franchise relies on RB Elijah Mitchell, who gets both his first game and a chance to prove himself this season. Additionally, Andy may bring in running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who’s currently on the practice squad. Alongside backs Kareem Hunt and Brashard Smith, the Chiefs will likely rotate their options ahead of the game.

The best part for the Chiefs? The Bills’ run defense has been feeble this season. The unit has allowed an average of 150.3 rushing yards per game, second-most in the league. With many defensive tackles like Ed Oliver, T.J. Sanders, and DeWayne Carter being away, the team is vulnerable.
It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs will exploit these shortcomings and register another win. Yet, Reid needs to get creative to keep Kansas City’s offense powerful.
