Allen rose to stardom early in his career with the Chiefs, quickly becoming one of the league’s most feared pass rushers. In 2007, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection and first-team All-Pro honors after leading the NFL with 15.5 sacks, marking a breakout season that cemented his place among the game’s elite defenders.

Over the course of his career, Allen compiled an impressive résumé, 136 sacks, 32 forced fumbles, and six interceptions, earning four All-Pro selections and a reputation for relentless effort and intensity.

Traded to the Minnesota Vikings before the 2008 season, Allen continued to dominate before later stints with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. Now, as he returns to Arrowhead, the Chiefs faithful will have the chance to celebrate one of the franchise’s most iconic defensive stars.

This season, the Chiefs went all out with their drum honoree selection. Before this week, for Week 4 vs the Ravens, Chiefs legend Priest Holmes got this chance.

An undrafted running back out of the University of Texas, Priest Holmes began his NFL journey with the Baltimore Ravens in 1997. Over four seasons in Baltimore, he carved out a role for himself and earned a Super Bowl XXXV ring,  but his true breakout came after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2001.

Once in Kansas City, Holmes became one of the most electrifying offensive forces in football. From 2001 to 2003, he put together one of the greatest three-year stretches in NFL history, earning three consecutive Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro selections. During that span, Holmes amassed an astounding 6,566 yards from scrimmage and 61 total touchdowns, firmly establishing himself as one of the league’s most dominant and dynamic playmakers.

In week 2, for the home opener game for the Chiefs of 2025, this opportunity was provided to former safety Tyrann Mathieu. He was a key part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV-winning squad.

Ahead of the game, the Chiefs have just one notable absence. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy will miss action due to shoulder and ankle injuries. Outside of Worthy, the team appears fully healthy and ready to take the field..

Andy Reid seeks a comeback in Week 6

Head coach Andy Reid has his eyes firmly on the upcoming clash. After falling 31–28 to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, the Chiefs are under pressure to get back on track against the Lions. Week 6 provides the Chiefs with an opportunity to make a statement in the NFL.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the need for sharper execution. “We have to be better, you know?” Mahomes said. “We’ve lost too many games already. We need to come together and play better as a team throughout the rest of the season.” He also mentioned penalties as a key issue.

“We hurt ourselves with penalties. As we continue to clean that up, we’ll continue to put more and more points on the board.” Mahomes said. “We have another great challenge this week playing the Lions, which is another great football team, which scores a lot of points themselves, and plays with a lot of pride, so it’ll be super important for us to go in with the right mindset knowing it’ll be a great challenge.”

The Lions, now 4-1, present one of the NFL’s most complete rosters. Andy Reid knows that the Lions will be a tough opponent. “They are playing good football,” he said. “Good, solid defense flying around. Offensively, they’ve been very effective points-wise and execution-wise. They haven’t had the self-inflicted wounds as much as some other teams. You know that they aren’t going backwards. We have to make sure we take care of business, stay aggressive on both sides of the ball, and special teams.”

He also mentioned Dan Campbell’s efforts to make this team great. He said, ”Dan’s done a nice job with that crew.” He also added that he is ”one of the game’s greatest offensive minds.”

Despite its 2-3 start, Kansas City remains confident in its ability to rebound. And Reid hopes that this matchup will yield better results.
