The Kansas City Chiefs got back to 0.500 with a 30-17 victory over the Detroit Lions in week 6. They improved to 3-3, but there’s even more good news coming for them, which will give a major boost to the offense.

As of Tuesday, October 14, the third-year wide receiver Rashee Rice became eligible to return to action after serving his six-game suspension ahead of the 2025 season. In March 2024, Rice was involved in a multi-vehicle car accident in Dallas. This landed up Rice with 5 years of probation and 30 days of jail on July 17, 2025. But now he is finally set to play.
To this, the veteran Chiefs defensive end, Charles Omenihu, couldn’t control his excitement. He expressed his joy by writing on his official X, “4 is free.” Rice, who dons number 4 jersey, will be back in the Raiders’ game. And it will be the first time Rice, Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown will take the field together. Omenihu and the entire team is happy, including head coach Andy Reid, who believes his receiver is ready to contribute.

“I know he’s been working out hard,” Reid said. “I think it’s just a matter of getting him back in the swing. I’ve got to see it to kind of work through it, but I know he’s in good shape. That’s the one thing I do know.” While it may take time to fully work Rice into the offense, his return would surely give the entire team a boost.

Omenihu, who shares a strong friendship bond and mutual respect with Rice, is glad, like others, to have him back. And why shouldn’t he? Earlier this year, when Rice saw Omenihu sign a $7 million, one-year deal to stick with the Chiefs, he couldn’t hide his excitement.
He shared a photo of Omenihu signing the contract on his Instagram story with the caption, “SKIT ITTTTT!!!!!” followed by a personal message, “LET GET IT BRUDDA”. Rice also sent Omenihu a signed jersey, besides publicly wishing him well. And now, thier togetherness again will certainly be a confidence booster for each other.
Rice has been working through rehab and training at the team facility, attending meetings in the last three weeks. He will be free to resume playing with the full team once Commissioner Roger Goodell gives him the Green light, as the Chiefs head against the Las Vegas Raiders in week 7.
The appearance of Rice will also be his first regular-season appearance in over 375 days. This would be traced back to week 4 of the 2024 season when he suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Los Angeles Chargers. That hit terminated his last season, but not anymore. As he prepares himself for a return, his team is also coming back slowly in the season.

Mahomes leads the Chiefs to victory
The Kansas City Chiefs played a clean and nearly perfect game on Sunday with no penalties or turnovers. They did their homework from last week’s messy loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards with three touchdowns and led the Chiefs to a 30-17 victory over the Lions. While Marquise Brown added two touchdowns to the score, Xavier Worthy also went home with 1 touchdown. Kansas City’s defense also stepped up, restricting the league’s most scoring defense to continue their winning streak. They managed to restrict Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s offense to a great extent.
Jared Goff had a modest outing; he passed 203 yards with two scores, connecting with Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta. On the other hand, Amon-Ra St. Brown had only 45 yards. In the first half, before Mahomes powered in for a rushing score to give Kansas City a 13-10 halftime lead, Williams’ 22-yard touchdown put Detroit ahead. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs also managed 65 yards in 17 carries.
Detroit Lions eventually settled for a field goal after a delay of the game. Seeing this, Mahomes and the Chiefs immediately responded. They marched 70 yards in eight plays. Worthy capped it off with a 6-yard touchdown on fourth and goal. After all the action, the game ended with a post-whistle clash.
Now with Rice coming back in, the Chiefs will look to continue thier victory march into the season.
