Essentials Inside The Story
- Marquise Brown closes one chapter with an emotional goodbye
- He now brings experience to the Philadelphia Eagles
- A.J. Brown is still at the center of swirling trade talks
During his two years with the Kansas City Chiefs, WR Marquise Hollywood Brown couldn’t fully showcase his potential. During his 2024 debut season, he suffered an injury appearing in just two games. Last year, the Chiefs re-signed him, and he made quite the statement. Now, when Brown agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, he couldn’t help but pen a heartfelt farewell message to his former team.
“Thank you Chiefs Kingdom 🙏🏿 and to all my brothers and coaches, thank you for accepting me with open arms, memories I’ll cherish forever 🖤,” Hollywood Brown wrote on X.

As hard as it may sound, the Chiefs had no choice but to let him go. They could have retained him for the same reported $6.5 million the Eagles offered, but they chose not to invest in him.
“The Chiefs have given Hollywood Brown two years to establish himself as one of their premier offensive weapons, and it just hasn’t happened yet. I don’t think they’ll be bringing him back, nor do I believe they should,” Alfaro-Donis wrote. “They have limited cap money to deal with, and a receiver heading into his 30’s shouldn’t be one of their priorities.”
But last year, Brown more or less compensated for all his missed time. He appeared in 16 games and appeared in 6, finishing with 49 receptions for 587 yards and five touchdowns. This was a visible improvement from his 2024 regular-season total of 9 catches for 91 yards. He handled a heavy workload early in the year and made the most of it, including scoring twice against the Detroit Lions in Week 6.

However, his workload shifted when other receivers like Tyquan Thornton emerged, and Rashee Rice returned from suspension. Without Brown, Patrick Mahomes will be missing a key offensive weapon. Plus, his departure has already thinned the WR room, which also saw veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton leave. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are headlining this unit after these losses, followed by a group of players who made minimal impact in 2025. This includes Jalen Royals, Nikko Remigio, and Andrew Armstrong.
With so much unproven talent, analysts suggest the Chiefs may prioritize wide receiver early in the 2026 NFL Draft to bring in fresh talent. And as for Brown, no matter what the time was back at Arrowhead, he took a moment to appreciate it. On the other hand, his wife, Zoei Billons, could not contain her excitement about the veteran wideout signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. After the move was announced, Billons reshared the NFL post on her Instagram story and captioned it, “Let’s go babyyyy🦅🤍🤍,” as she prepares for her husband to play for one of the league’s top teams
While Hollywood Brown and his family celebrate their move to Philadelphia, the Eagles’ front office still faces a significant decision regarding its other wide receiver, A.J. Brown. The 28-year-old has been part of multiple trade rumors throughout the offseason. With Brown’s future in Philly still under a cloud, an NFL insider has revealed when the franchise could part ways with the star wideout.
Insider reveals when the Eagles plan to trade A.J. Brown
After a turbulent season, it appears that A.J. Brown’s tenure with the Eagles could soon come to an end. Brown, despite recording another 1000+ yard season, grabbed the headlines for his off-field reactions about the team’s offense and his heated interaction with head coach Nick Sirianni during their NFC Wildcard round defeat against the San Francisco 49ers.
Hence, A.J. Brown has emerged as one of the best receiving names available on the market ahead of the 2025 season. The Denver Broncos showed interest in the star wideout before trading for Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle. With Brown still available, NFL insider Adam Schefter commented on when the franchise might move him.
“I never heard that Denver was involved in any talks for AJ Brown,” Adam Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show. “If the Eagles are gonna trade him, it makes sense to do it post June 1.”

If the Eagles move A.J. Brown before June 1, they will have to carry a crushing $43 million dead cap hit. But if they wait, if they’re patient, that number drops to around $16 million. The remaining balance (roughly $27.1 million) will be carried over to the 2027 season. Moving him after the set date actually helps the Eagles save $7 million in cap space for 2026. That gap isn’t small. Moving him after June 1 actually helps the Eagles save $7 million in cap space for 2026.
However, unlike player releases, NFL rules do not allow a “post-June 1 designation” for trades. To get the cap relief, the trade must actually be processed on or after June 2.
