When 1587 Prime launched last month, Patrick Mahomes said, “Kansas City loves food…and I think the city’s going to love it.” After weeks of chatter around their high-end restaurant, the Mahomes-Kelce duo is taking it to the next level. Let’s just say the party’s leaving the dining room and heading straight to Arrowhead.

On Monday, 1587 Prime announced, “1587 Prime is heading to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium” ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Monday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders on October 27.

The pregame event starts at 2:30 p.m. local time in Parking Lot M. The event will run until kickoff and feature exactly what you’d expect from the city’s two biggest stars. Lots of food, music, and plenty of fanfare.

The event is free and open to all, offering what they call “a signature 1587 Prime game day taste,” live tunes on the Ford Tailgate District stage, food trucks, giveaways, Chiefs cheerleader autographs, and official merchandise.

After back‑to‑back wins against the Detroit Lions and Las Vegas Raiders, Mahomes and Travis Kelce seem ready to turn their off‑field venture into its own celebration. The restaurant, named after their jersey numbers and opened in partnership with hospitality group Noble 33, debuted on September 17 to fanfare and skepticism in equal measure.

This upcoming tailgate marks 1587 Prime’s first direct tie‑in event with the Chiefs’ home game. It’s a crafty way to re‑energize fans and reshape its public perception amid growing chatter about its controversial menu prices.

Online critics turn up the heat on 1587 Prime

The same restaurant that hosted Mahomes’ star‑studded 30th birthday is now facing backlash over a $16 side of mashed potatoes. A Reddit post calling out the dish.

“The $16 mashed potatoes served at Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s new restaurant,” the user wrote. “They are also frequently served cold.”

While the food quality debate raged, Business Insider’s Kelsey Huson shared a much different experience. Her group spent $800 and loved every detail, especially the tableside flambé of brandy, bone‑marrow butter, and herbs poured over steak.

But fans aren’t exactly feeling the same way. Another fan wrote, “If that’s mashed potatoes, then I have 12 Super Bowl rings. I wouldn’t feed that to my dog.” And from there, the complaints snowballed.

“I’m truly shocked that the restaurant opened by 2 NFL players is sh-tty,” another user added, summarizing the online mood. 1587 Prime holds a respectable 4.4 Google rating, but online perception can shift faster than a blitzing linebacker.

Between high expectations, high prices, and a diehard fan base that notices everything, Mahomes and Kelce’s next big challenge might be convincing their own city that 1587 really is as good as promised. Monday’s Arrowhead tailgate could be the start of that comeback story.
