Tavia Hunt, wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, has once again pushed back on the idea that NFL officials favor Kansas City. This time, she pointed to a moment from the Chiefs’ Week 4 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

A post shared side-by-side images with the caption, “Chris Jones held in the end zone,” showing a play where Kansas City’s star defensive tackle appeared to be held without a flag being thrown. Hunt shared the post and made her feelings clear in the caption.
“So sick of the past narrative that the Chiefs get all the calls,” Hunt wrote on her Instagram story. “Stats don’t lie, and neither does film — so I’m leaving this here.”

The play stood out because it goes against one of the biggest complaints surrounding the Chiefs. Kansas City has faced accusations for years that officials regularly make calls that benefit the team. By spotlighting a moment when Jones appeared to be held without a whistle, Hunt made the opposite case: that, if anything, missed calls have gone against Kansas City as often as they’ve gone its way.
The game itself gave Hunt plenty to work with regardless of any single play. Kansas City escaped with a 30-27 win over their AFC West rival on October 4, improving to 4-0 on the season and taking sole possession of first place in the division. It was a back-and-forth, physical rivalry game throughout, with the Chiefs needing a tightened-up defensive effort in the second half to hold off a late Las Vegas push.
Jones himself has had plenty to say about his own defensive line this season, independent of Sunday’s officiating storyline. Earlier in the week, he responded directly to criticism of Kansas City’s pass rush, which had been relatively quiet through the team’s undefeated start.
“We’re close statistically. You look at the numbers; the quarterback’s been getting rid of the ball in 2.3 seconds,” Jones said. “So, I don’t care how good of a pass-rusher you are. When they’re throwing the ball that quick, it’s tough for anyone.”
Hunt has spoken out about those claims before. Hunt has made this point on Instagram several times, pushing back on claims that the Chiefs get favorable treatment from officials. She has also used statistics in some of those posts to back up her statement. For instance, in January 2025, she said:
“They love to credit the refs with our wins. But look at the actual facts.”
That earlier post pointed out that Kansas City has actually ranked among the most penalized teams in the league since Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018, racking up more penalty yards than almost any other franchise, a stat Hunt has treated as direct evidence against the idea that officials are quietly protecting her husband’s team.
She made a similar point before Super Bowl LIX. Hunt credited the Chiefs’ success to “hard work, belief, and purpose” and rejected the idea that the team had benefited from “black magic or referee favoritism.” She has also shared comments from others who have defended Kansas City, including former NFL receiver Julian Edelman, who said:
“It’s apparent when you’re on top, everyone wants to try and bring you down,” Julian told the Rich Eisen Podcast. “It’s a bunch of baloney that the league is helping the Kansas City Chiefs.”
That makes Sunday’s post another example of Hunt responding to the same criticism, but this time she used a specific play from the game. Her point was simple: if Kansas City really received favorable treatment from officials, there are also plays where the Chiefs appear to be on the wrong side of missed calls.
