The Kansas City Chiefs plundered the New York Giants last week. But this wasn’t the only wild moment that fired up the internet. After the game, Patrick Mahomes tried to make a young fan’s night by tossing him his game-worn headband. But just as the kid reached out, a Giants’ supporter swooped in and snatched it right out of his hands. The look on the boy’s face said it-pure shock. “Yo, she just stole that from me.” The incident was so heartbreaking that it even compelled Tavia Hunt, the director of the Chiefs Women’s Organization (CWO), to speak of it.

Hunt, who is also the wife of the Chiefs’ owner, Clarke Hunt, took to her official Instagram and posted a story mentioning the entire incident and a picture of the 10-year-old kid, Joey. She captioned the story, “If anyone knows who this boy is, message me,” with a thumbs down and heartbreak emoji. Noted as a celebrated personality for her benevolence, Tavia Hunt is well known for fearlessly voicing her opinion on social media.

Recently, she spoke her heart out after the news of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination. She didn’t hold back and called out the people who were celebrating Kirk’s death. She stressed, saying that celebrating someone’s death says more about the character of the people who are doing it. Hunt reminded everyone that at the end of the day, a wife lost her husband, and two kids lost their dad.

With her philanthropy and outspoken approach, she has won hundreds of hearts. Even her take on social media for young Joey signals that she has something massive gift to make his 10th birthday special.

Things got more dramatic when the woman at the centre of this, Nina Miller, came forward.

In her other video, Nina said, “At the game, with all the noise and all the excitement, I honestly thought that Pat Mahomes was giving me the headband. I reached for it without thinking. Later, I found out that it was meant for that little boy for his 10th birthday. When I found out, I felt horrible, because I don’t want to ruin anyone’s little time at the game and ruin their little birthday. To the young boy, I’m sorry that I ruined your moment. You should have had your moment for your birthday.”

But fans on social media weren’t actually buying it. They pointed out that Mahomes was clearly looking at Joey, and the kid actually had the sleeve in his hand. With further cruel waves of comments, she was compelled to add, “But I’m human, guys, and I make mistakes. I’m not perfect, but I’m also a mom and I’m also a Christian, and I’m admitting when I’m wrong and I’m trying to admit what I did wrong to make it right.”

The incident reflects that the headband was more than just a sweaty fabric. The kid wanted to celebrate his birthday in Mahomes’ colours. It was supposed to be a priceless gift from his favourite quarterback, but the moment turned out sour, sparking a viral debate. Nina ultimately closed with, “Sorry to everyone, But I’m sorry most of all to you, son… I’m sorry to Joey. I’m sorry I ruined your day; it wasn’t my intention. I swear it was not my intention, I apologize deeply.”
