When Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce opened the 1587 Prime high-end steakhouse downtown, the buzz was instant. Tucked inside the Loews Hotel, the restaurant promised the “finest” meals to its customers. Despite the elite standard behind this venture, the restaurant hasn’t been immune to criticism. It all began with a viral Reddit post when a user complained about a simple dish like mashed potatoes. Amidst all the backlash, Travis Kelce is clearing the air.

“It’s not a bad dish in the entire menu, man,” Kelce said on the New Heights podcast. “I like the Hamachi. I think that’s a unique to Kansas City. It’s specific to the restaurant in unique to Kansas City because Kansas City doesn’t have like a lot of these.” The TE also gave details about some of the special dishes.

“Obviously, you got Andy Reid’s cheeseburger. It’s a smash burger. Can’t go wrong with that. You can get it with the special sauce. You can get it with ketchup. I think it comes with a few sauces that you you can pick and choose from. You got your chicken nuggies.”

Jason’s reaction? Total approval. Once the conversation turned to nuggets and sauces, the tone shifted from curiosity to genuine excitement. “All right, now you’re talking my language.” Travis, amused, kept going. He talked about the fresh pastrami served with pickles and dipping sauce, and of course, the real stars of the show: the steaks.

“Obviously, the steaks are like the main reason why you’re gonna want to go to 1587 for sure, though.”

But if the steaks are this exceptional, shouldn’t the sides, like the mashed potatoes, match the same quality level? While Business Insider’s food critic Kelsey Huson called it more than a restaurant… “An experience”… others feel like the prices don’t justify the overall food quality.

Cocktails run between $18 and $25, while soups, salads, and starters range from $16 to $40. Entrees climb as high as $130, and the tab adds up fast. Huson’s group spent just under $800 before tip, covering six cocktails, two appetizers, four entrées, three sides, two desserts, and add-ons.

The steak options are particularly high-end, with premium Wagyu cuts that Kelce called “what makes 1587 unique,” starting around $59 and going up to a $345, 40-ounce tomahawk. Main dishes don’t pull punches either: a Delmonico steak sells for $135, a 16-ounce ribeye for $165, and seafood lovers are met with $63 roasted branzino or $76 twin lobster tails. Still, for many, 1587 Prime isn’t about affordability. It’s about the experience.

And it’s not just off the field; Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have been making headlines after Sunday’s performance vs. the Raiders.

Travis Kelce shines in Chiefs’ 31-0 victory over Raiders

Travis Kelce recorded three receptions for 54 yards, including an early connection with Mahomes that resulted in a 44-yard catch in the first quarter, setting up the team’s opening touchdown. It also marked the Kelces’ longest play of the season.

Meanwhile, Mahomes himself was brilliant, turning in one of his best games of the season. He threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns, adding in 28 rushing yards. With this Mahomes secured his 93rd career regular season win, surpassing Peyton Manning for the most wins for a QB of his age.

After the game, Mahomes praised the team’s spirit, saying, “We have a lot of weapons… and they all love each other, and they want each other to succeed.” He called the dominant performance “a good step in the right direction.”

The Chiefs’ defense was just as powerful as the offense. They completely shut down the Raiders, holding them to 96 total yards. The Chiefs scored on their first five possessions, with Rashee Rice catching touchdowns on two of them. For the Chiefs, this complete team victory showed what they are capable of this season.
