The Kansas City Chiefs offense has been searching for rhythm for a while now. But it was in the last week’s win over the New York Giants, it finally showed signs of life after halftime.

Patrick Mahomes marched his team downfield on an 11-play drive capped by a 5-yard touchdown to Tyquan Thornton. Minutes later, he threw a 33-yard strike to Thornton again, setting up Kareem Hunt’s goal-line score.

Even the Kelce brothers couldn’t stop talking about Mahomes this week on their New Heights podcast with Travis Kelce, zeroing in on one moment: Mahomes’ wild fumble recovery late in the first half against the Giants. “One of the craziest plays I’ve ever seen in my entire career,” Travis said. “I don’t think any other quarterback makes this play,” Jason added.

Mahomes had tried to flip a pass toward Isiah Pacheco, only to fling the ball backward. It fell into no man’s land, where Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke scooped it up at the 10-yard line with a potential touchdown in sight. That’s when Mahomes flipped the entire script. He sprinted across the field, slammed into Okereke, ripped the ball out, and collapsed on it on the 7-yard line, protecting the ball with both his hands.

Even the commentary in the live game said it all: “That thing is understood immediately, and he stole it. Took it away from him.” Travis Kelce replayed the chaos in his head: “What the f*** was that? There was so much like chaos in my mind of I turned around, like, “What? We got it back?””

Through three weeks, Kansas City sits 17th in total yards and 21st in scoring. But ahead of Sunday’s clash with Baltimore Ravens, Mahomes told reporters that the second-half surge in New York was proof the offense is “coming together.” See the highlights, and you will see how he couldn’t be more right.

Jason joined in with the same curiosity: “What do you think is going into Pat’s head right there? (0:29) Right when the ball hits the ground.” Travis didn’t hesitate in putting Mahomes’ reaction to what could have been a costly mistake: “Oh f*.” Jason pushed him to mimic Mahomes’ tone: “Do it in the right voice.” With Travis repeating and changing his voice, “Oh f*.” The two ended up breaking into laughter.

Humor aside, the brothers kept circling back to how what Mahomes did wasn’t normal. He’s the one quarterback you can never count out. While Andy Reid or even Taylor Swift, as some joked, might’ve thrown a tighter ball, nobody else would’ve fought like that to win it back.

“This was such an impressive play. He covered so much ground and then just like who has the foresight to like jump at the ball?” Jason said. Travis Kelce then wrapped it up in classic big-brother energy: “It’s so insane from that angle. He just comes out of nowhere, man. Patti Mahomes, baby. That boy got heart. That boy got heart, man. F*** love that guy, man. F*.”

Mahomes, who completed 22 of 37 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown vs. the Giants, will just throw himself into chaos if that’s what it takes to give his team a chance.

Patrick Mahomes turns the spotlight on himself

The win over the New York Giants was more like a sigh of relief after a shaky 1–2 start. Then Patrick Mahomes grabbed the mic. He didn’t dwell on the 59% completion rate or the run game sputtering at the line of scrimmage. Instead, the two-time MVP turned the spotlight on himself.

“I’ve kind of put it on myself to give guys chances down the field,” Mahomes told reporters. “I told guys to hold me accountable. I wanted to hold myself accountable for giving the guys the chances to make plays, and they’re proving that they can make them.”

But that’s ownership. Kansas City’s offense has shown flashes but no consistent flow. Mahomes knows the bar is higher.

The offense has been sputtering. A 22-point showing against the Giants looked uninspired, penalties from tackle Jawaan Taylor have repeatedly killed drives, and the ground game led by Isiah Pacheco hasn’t hit its stride. Vs. the Ravens, it will be a whole different scene.

And if Mahomes delivers on his words and hits one of those 40-yard strikes, fans are going to explode. And if not, the noise around Kansas City’s fall will only grow louder.
