Essentials Inside The Story

  • Patrick Mahomes Sr. arrested for third time, risks 10-year sentence.
  • Legal woes strike during quarterback's rehab from season-ending injury.
  • Brittany Mahomes earns accolade amid family turmoil.

The off-field troubles for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes don’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Just weeks after a disheartening exit from the 2025 season and an ACL injury, the passer is hit with more unfortunate news. His dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Tuesday while being on probation for the last two years.

“#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ father, former #MLB standout Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested today,” reported TMZ, via MLFootball on X. “Mahomes was arrested for allegedly drinking alcohol, which is reportedly a violation of his probation for his DWI sentence. Pat has been arrested for DUI at 3 times.”

Per reports, Pat Mahomes was taken into custody by 8:53 AM local time in Smith County, Texas. This is the first time he broke the rules of probation after being arrested by the Tyler PD on February 3, 2024, for his third DWI. According to the Texas law, this is a major crime and carries heavy penalties if violated. Instead of a longer jail time, Mahomes Sr. pled guilty and agreed to a five-year probation starting September 2024.

Per reports, Mahomes Sr.’s monitoring device showed alcohol in the system, which is why he was accused of breaking the terms of probation. However, it is not clear whether he has admitted to drinking or violating the terms. If found guilty, he could be facing 10 years in prison or community service, Alcoholics Anonymous classes, and enrollment in a repeat DWI offender program. He now has the right to contest the probation violation in front of a judge. But the date of the hearing or other updates are not out yet.

Last time when the 55-year-old was arrested, the police video went viral. He was seen pleading to the officers and looked embarrassed about troubling his QB son, who was preparing for Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Can I say one thing?” Mahomes Sr. said, as seen in the clip from 2022. “My son is getting ready to play in the Super Bowl. I am not drunk, I promise you. I’ve had some drinks, but he can’t have this right now. This can’t happen. We’ve never had a star here in this area, and now we got a chance to be a star, and now we going to have a scandal now,” he added.

While speaking on the ESPN docuseries “The Kingdom” the Chiefs QB spoke about the situation and his reaction to the same.

“I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can’t keep doing the same things,” Mahomes said, recalling the incident.

It is hard to see how his conditions have worsened. Mahomes Sr. is a former MLB player, having played for six franchises in 11 seasons. The Pittsburgh Pirates were the last team he played for before retiring in 2003.

While the Mahomes household navigates similar problems, a ray of hope came from the Chiefs QB’s wife, who is now a Hall of Famer!

Brittany Mahomes enters the Hall of Fame

Before getting engaged to and marrying Patrick Mahomes, Brittany was a star soccer athlete. She represented the Texas-Tyler Patriots at the NCAA Division III level. Although it has been years since she left her playing career, her history at UT Tyler followed her.

Earlier this week on Monday, it was announced that she would be inducted into the University of Texas at Tyler Hall of Fame. The commencement will happen on March 28. She represented the program from 2013 to 2016. During that period, she scored 31 goals and 16 assists in 74 games. Out of those 31 goals, 10 were game-winning goals.

Her 2016 season was known as one of the best in the history of the program.  She scored 40 points with 18 goals, and 7 of them were game-winning goals.

“I’m especially grateful to Coach Webb, her belief in me, leadership, and constant support had an incredible impact on my journey both on and off the field. UT Tyler will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m so thankful for the experiences and the people who were part of making my time in Tyler one I will never forget,” Brittany said while sharing her happiness via social media this week.

Even though she stopped playing the sport, Britany remained close with soccer as a team owner. Brittany and Patrick are the co-owners of the Kansas City Current. The National Women’s Soccer League formed the team in 2020 with authorization. Under their leadership, the Current made it to the playoffs this season. They led the standings with 21 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws, and reached the quarterfinals.

Besides that, Brittany is a certified fitness trainer and an influencer, promoting her workout brand, Brittany Lynne Fitness. While the star quarterback heals from an ACL injury, his wife is helping him recover and taking care of their three kids: Sterling Skye, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, and Golden Raye.

No doubt, it is going to be a busy offseason for the quarterback, with major roster revamps happening inside the locker room and also dealing with off-field issues associated with his dad. It remains to be seen how the legalities take place.
