Patrick Mahomes may be navigating one of the toughest stretches of his season, but he still made time to celebrate family. One day after facing a tough loss to the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback joined his loved ones to honor his grandfather on November 17.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. shared the moment through his latest Instagram post, celebrating his father Johnny’s birthday. In the photo attached to the post, Johnny stood outdoors on a bright sunny day with his son and two grandsons by his side – Patrick and Jackson Mahomes. The four men stood shoulder-to-shoulder between two parked cars, smiling with tall trees behind them.

“Happy 78th pops. The Real OG Mahomes,” Mahomes Sr. wrote in the caption of the post.

The post showed a relaxed family moment. Patrick Mahomes stood second from the right, wearing a black polo shirt, dark pants, and sunglasses. Mahomes Sr. stood next to him in a dark shade sweater and pants. Johnny stood on the other side with a white sweater and glasses. Meanwhile, Patrick’s brother, Jackson, in a gray hoodie and sweatpants, completed the family line-up.

The post felt like a heartfelt wish to “The Real OG Mahomes” from Patrick Mahomes Sr., and it echoed his touching birthday tribute to his son this year. But through this post, Mahomes Sr. brought in three generations of the Mahomes in one frame, especially during this tough time.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are in a situation fans are simply not used to seeing. Ever since Mahomes became the starter in 2018, Kansas City has been a lock for the AFC Championship Game. They have hosted it six times. The Chiefs have even reached the Super Bowl five times. Dominance like that almost made the postseason feel like a formality.

But this year? Things look different for the Chiefs. And not in a good way. The Chiefs’ 22-19 loss to the Broncos on November 16 dropped them to 5-5. They now sit ninth in the AFC. That’s unfamiliar territory for Patrick Mahomes. The five losses already match the most Mahomes has ever had in a season. The mot shocking part is that those losses are the most that the QB has ever had through ten games in a season.

So the concern is real. Hence, during this difficult phase, Mahomes’ family is supporting each other, celebrating every moment they can, just like Johnny’s big day. As a result, fans were delighted as they quickly gathered in the comments of the post to pour blessings for the Mahomes family.

That was a heartfelt blessing for the Mahomes family, and it was echoed by many others. “Happy birthday to the 🐐🐐🐐,” another fan commented.

This echoed Mahomes Sr.’s own words about Johnny being “The Real OG Mahomes” in the family.

“Happy birthday to Johnny!!” commented NFL agent Chris Cabott.

Cabott was the agent behind Patrick Mahomes’ $450M record-breaking contract extension with the Chiefs. But he wasn’t the only familiar name in the comments. Former baseball player Edwin Jackson also chimed in with a memory from Mahomes Sr.’s baseball days.

“Happy G Day OG!! Feel like it was just yesterday we was on that field together and younger Pat was telling me he gon teach me that rise ball 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂,” commented Jackson.

The birthday love for Johnny was overflowing, but the mood around the Chiefs has been anything but cheerful. As such, Patrick Mahomes also had a message for the locker room after the loss to the Broncos.

“It s–ks,” said Patrick Mahomes. “Don’t get me wrong. You got to feel that, but you got to be able to kind of use that energy to push it into the next week, into the rest of the season, and all you can focus on is the next game.”

Patrick Mahomes is right, but can the Chiefs actually turn it around? The Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens share the same 5-5 record with the Chiefs, but Houston currently holds the tiebreaker. The schedule isn’t doing the Chiefs any favors either. The Chiefs play the Indianapolis Colts next, and still have home games against the Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers. So, the margin for error is thin.
