According to a post on X by the Colts, “We have placed CB Charvarius Ward Sr. on IR. We have signed RB Ameer Abdullah to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. We have elevated CB Cameron Mitchell and WR Laquon Treadwell to the active roster from the practice squad for #INDvsLAC.”

Ward is scheduled to miss 4 games against the Los Angeles Chargers (Week 7), the Tennessee Titans (Week 8), the Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 9), and the Atlanta Falcons (Week 10). The Colts also elevated cornerback Cameron Mitchell and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell to their Week 7 active roster from the practice squad.

Throughout his ten-year career, Abdullah has recorded 2,007 yards on 497 carries and 20 touchdowns. Since joining the Colts’ practice squad in September, he has made two appearances. He rushed three times for 13 yards, a touchdown, and a nine-yard reception. The Colts have a bye in Week 11 and the win over the Cardinals could prove crucial.

Colts build momentum ahead of Week 7 clash

With a 5-1 record, the Indianapolis Colts open Week 7. With an average of 4.6 yards per run, they rank 14th in terms of rushing yards per play and first in terms of rushing EPA per play (+.090). Their current record of 10 consecutive red-zone touchdown drives raises their red-zone offense’s conversion rate to 65.5%.

The Los Angeles Chargers, on the other hand, standing at 4-2, are (-1.5). Their quarterback, Justin Herbert, led the squad to victory in Week 6 with his 18th career drive, and they average about 400 yards of offense per game.

The Chargers are ranked 24th in terms of rushing success rate allowed (34.7%) and 28th in terms of yards allowed per carry (5.0) on defense. The Colts, meanwhile, give up the second-lowest touchdown rate in the NFL, 42.9%, when opponents enter the red zone.

To make up for their inconsistencies in the red zone, the Chargers must use their home-field advantage and Herbert’s late-game play. The Chargers’ kickoff coverage of 28.1 yards allowed will be exploited by the Colts, who average 27.2 yards on kickoff returns, in an attempt to obtain an early advantage.

The Week 7 matchup sits at the Chargers’ run-defense recovery versus the Colts’ red-zone domination.
