“Another person who knows Daniel Jones well said, This is not an injury he’s concerned about,” ESPN’s Ian Rapoport wrote on X.

Rapoport’s comments suggest that things are under control and Jones may bounce back from his injury soon. It is a follow-up to his earlier update, which reported that Jones had a fibula fracture. We’re not sure exactly when Jones fractured his fibula, but the injury reportedly came to light ahead of Week 12. Despite the setback confirmed by an NFL doctor, Rapoport shared a promising update on the quarterback.

“Jones was a full participant today and one source said, “He looked good.” Jones will continue to try to play through it. Toughness never questioned.”

Speaking of toughness, the first-round pick still suited up against the Kansas City Chiefs and pushed through his pain. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t take over the Chiefs, but it shows that the player won’t likely hesitate to give his all in Week 13. Moreover, his full participation during the team’s Thanksgiving practice only adds to it.

The Colts are having a strong season, and Jones’ contribution plays a big part. With 2,840 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and a career-best 69.1% completion rate in 11 games, he has also revived his career. Now, his team rules the AFC South with an 8-3 record, and all eyes will be on the remaining six crucial games.

On Sunday, the Colts will fight the Houston Texans in an important divisional showdown. The team tries to hold off both the Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are closing in on them. For now, rookie quarterback Riley Leonard serves as a backup while Anthony Richardson remains on injured reserve with an eye injury. But as Jones continues to thrive, we wonder if the Colts will keep him for the long haul?

Are the Colts ready to commit to Daniel Jones’ future?

The Colts welcomed Daniel Jones through a one-year, $14 million deal in March, which paid off better than anyone expected. But the Duke graduate will soon become a free agent and could earn a massive contract. The Colts have already expressed an interest in keeping him for the long term.

Though the floor won’t be open for negotiations until the 2025 season ends, analysts remain cautious. Their hesitation stems from what happened to the New York Giants. They gave Jones a four-year, $160 million contract, but the partnership fell apart. So, the Colts need to see if Jones can maintain his dominating performance in the long run.

Plus, the franchise traded multiple first-round picks and a wide receiver to acquire Sauce Gardner. It means that they won’t likely have the draft capital to get an elite QB for at least a year. That puts significant leverage in Jones’ hands. What’s the other way out if the Colts still hesitate to commit long-term?

They could label Jones as a franchise quarterback at $46.1 million and keep him for another year without a long-term contract. In other news, check out our exclusive interview with former cornerback Champ Bailey on the impact of HC Sean Payton on the Denver Broncos and the team’s playoff chances.
