In the NFL, home-field advantage is mostly about the fans in the stands. Since September 2020, teams have been allowed to pump in up to 80 decibels of artificial crowd noise to replicate the roar of a packed stadium. For the Los Angeles Rams, SoFi Stadium has turned that rule into a weapon. The speakers do the work of thousands of people, creating confusion and false starts to rattle the visiting teams. It’s a great strategy, and the Rams have leaned into it heavily. But Camryn Bynum isn’t okay with it.

Enter the Indianapolis Colts, undefeated at 3-0 in the 2025 season, heading into L.A. for their Week 4 clash on Sunday, September 28. Colts safety Cam Bynum, speaking on the Downs 2 Business podcast, didn’t mince words. When asked if SoFi Stadium is the best in the league, he replied, “Nah, it’s not. I don’t like the stadium.” Why? The turf seems short and slippery. But Bynum didn’t stop there.
“They play fake crowd noise because their crowd isn’t that turnt,” Bynum said. “More like a celebrity show in there…..On 3rd downs, you see the crowd sitting down, but somehow there’s noise coming from somewhere. We were just looking around last year, like, ‘Hold on, that noise is coming from the speakers.’” Bynum, 27, has already made a big impact this season with 11 tackles (7 solo), three defended passes, and a league-leading two interceptions. But now, he is arguably playing mind games.

Fake crowd noise isn’t new at SoFi. Back in August 2020, during the Rams’ first scrimmage in their $5 billion stadium, head coach Sean McVay called it “irritating,” though edge rusher Samson Ebukam shrugged it off. The effect was visible in the very next year, in 2021. Tom Brady could not lead the offense properly, disturbed by noise, and even Andy Dalton had issues in the game they lost to the Rams by 14-34.

But the rivals also used it to their advantage. In 2022, Matthew Stafford could not get a silent start against the Bills, and his wife, Kelly, blamed rival fans for making communication difficult. Still, SoFi can get loud when L.A. fans are engaged. The stadium’s steep design aids sound trapping and amplifies every clap and shout. For the Colts, it’s a unique challenge. In the NFL, sometimes the loudest opponent isn’t across the line of scrimmage. It’s coming from the overhead speakers. So, although the Colts do not have the advantage like the Rams this time, they have Daniel Jones on their side. But the battle will be tough for sure.
Daniel Jones vs Rams – a real nervy battle
Daniel Jones, the former New York Giants quarterback, has found a new home with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2025 NFL season. After a competitive training camp, head coach Shane Steichen named Jones the starting quarterback. He signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Colts. Through the first three games of the season, Jones has been impressive. He has completed 63 of 88 passes for 816 yards, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt, with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His 111.7 passer rating ranks among the top in the league, while maintaining a 71.6% completion rate. Jones’ dual-threat capabilities have been evident with three rushing touchdowns.
His ability to perform under pressure is worth noting, especially in the second quarter, where he has thrown for 236 yards and two touchdowns. However, the team is coming off multiple injuries. The Colts released their Week 4 injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Rams, and it’s not looking great. Wide receiver Alec Pierce is OUT with a concussion he suffered last week and hasn’t practiced all week, paving the way for AD Mitchell to step into the starting lineup.

In addition, right guard Matt Goncalves is also OUT with a toe injury, missing all practice time this week, so Da’Kuhn Tucker is expected to fill in. Cornerback Kenny Moore is sidelined with an Achilles injury from last week’s game. He is likely out for multiple weeks, which could lead to Mike Hilton getting a call-up to handle the nickel spot. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is listed as questionable after managing just one practice session this week. The Colts will need to shuffle their lineup to cover these key absences.
RB Jonathan Taylor has given more firepower by leading the NFL with 338 rushing yards. Their balanced attack has been a key factor in their undefeated start to the season. Looking ahead, the Colts face a significant test in Week 4. The Rams’ defense, led by LB Jared Verse and DT Poona Ford, will challenge Jones and the Colts’ offense. As the season progresses, Jones’ development and the Colts’ offensive game will be crucial in their pursuit of postseason success.
