The Indianapolis Colts pulled off a Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals, but it wasn’t without drama. Mistakes and a late scare kept the team on edge, leaving a sour aftertaste despite the win.

Safety Camryn Bynum didn’t hold back, openly addressing the issues that almost cost them the game. “It wasn’t good enough. Simple and plain,” Bynum said. “There were a lot of plays that we left out there. Little, small details, like letting checkdowns go for too many yards and getting first downs off of that. … But for us to escape it with a win, that’s positive.”

While the mistakes clearly have the players concerned, they look at the win over the Cardinals for motivation. He consoled rookie cornerback Johnathan Edwards by sharing the same message he took for himself.

“We won the game,” Bynum told Edwards. “This will only make you better, and we’re gonna need you.”

And it’s understandable. Just a few days ago, Bynum spoke highly of the team’s defense. He even claimed it to be one of the best defenses he has ever been with in the league. He had a stint with the Minnesota Vikings before the Colts.

“We got cold corners, cold pass rush,” the safety said. “Every single receiver, every single one of y’all is cold. So it’s just the most complete team I’ve ever been a part of.”

Later, this offseason, he signed a four-year, $60 million contract with the Colts. The safety had a great start with the Colts racking up 21 tackles, three pass deflections, and two interceptions in five games. Just like the issues in defense, the player has never hesitated to speak his mind.

While the Colts have been impressive this season with a new roster, the team clearly can’t afford such mistakes. Be it offense or defense, the team also seems to be careful, as seen with wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. As per NFL reporter Ari Meirov, Mitchell was named as ‘healthy inactive’.

And the reason behind his benching was reportedly as a result of his costly fumble back in Week 5. Though this isn’t confirmed. The wide receiver, who wasn’t injured, saw limited action after that mistake.

And now, he is inactive for the first time this season. In five games, he’s recorded seven catches for 137 yards, and if the fumble is the reason, this benching could keep him sidelined for a while. As for now, the team must turn its focus to the defense.

The Colts survived the defense issues to win the Week 6 game

One of the reasons behind the Colts’ defense struggles is cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr., who was ruled out with a concussion that he suffered during pre-game warmups. This comes as a major blow to the cornerback room, where cornerback Kenny Moore II went down due to an Achilles injury.

Now, injuries aren’t the only reason for trouble for the Colts. Their pass rushing also needs to be better. The team had the best NFL pressure rates. However, the same unit struggled against the Cardinals’ offensive line, which had already allowed 16 sacks this season.

The Colts made 11 hits and late pressures on veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett. While defensive tackles like DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Neville Gallimore, and Adetomiwa Adebawore made six QB hits, the Colts still need more consistency in the edge rush from their defensive ends.

As Bynum shared, the team will look to avoid these mistakes as they head to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7.
