The night went from bad to worse for the Washington Commanders. What looked like just another red zone drive quickly turned into a nightmare. Midway through the fourth quarter, Jayden Daniels dropped back on 2nd and goal, scanning the field. Then came the hit. Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas shot through untouched and wrapped him up before he could even blink.

As he went down, Daniels tried to brace himself with his left arm. But it bent awkwardly. The FedExField crowd went silent. You could feel the tension shift. Trainers rushed in, and before anyone could exhale, they called for the cart. His arm was quickly placed in an air cast before he was taken toward the locker room for X-rays. And according to NFL injury expert Jesse Morse, it’s a season-ending injury.
After the game, Dan Quinn didn’t hold back his concern.

Even rival coach Mike Macdonald took a moment to address the situation.
“We never want to see that in our games. We want him to get back healthy, our sideline was with him. Prayers for him. Hope that he comes back.”
However, fans didn’t stay silent for long. The Commanders’ faithful took shots at Dan Quinn online. Their frustration wasn’t just about the loss but about the timing. Many wondered why Daniels was still in during garbage time while the Seahawks had already pulled Sam Darnold off the field. And now, that decision might haunt Washington for the rest of the season.

Dan Quinn explains why he kept Jayden Daniels in garbage time
In post-game, Dan Quinn made it clear there wasn’t any talk about pulling Jayden Daniels late in the game.
“There was no discussion in leaving quarterback Jayden Daniels in the game. The hindsight, you don’t want to think that way, where injury could take place. You’re more conservative in that spot, running and handoffs and not have reads to go.”
But the concern runs deeper. Daniels had already missed three games this season. First, a knee issue sidelined him in Weeks 3 and 4. Then, a hamstring injury forced him to sit out the Commanders’ matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs just six days before. So yes, seeing him take snaps in garbage time had fans scratching their heads. Especially when the game was already slipping away.
When asked if things would change moving forward, Quinn didn’t commit too much.
“It’s really important we get that part right. And we will.”
Finally, Quinn broke down the play itself. He explained it wasn’t designed for Daniels to run.
“The play that resulted in the injury is a run-pass option. If they ran the play 50 times, then 50 times it would be a handoff or a pass. Just the end result, I’m bummed.”
That final line said it all — disappointment, regret, and the realization that one snap changed everything.
