Not only Johnson, even the other owner of the franchise, Josh Harris, expressed his pride. He said, “It will bring hundreds of thousands of visitors, millions of viewers around the world, and generate jobs, tax revenue, and meaningful economic impact across the city. As Washington last hosted the draft in 1941 at the Willard Hotel, Mayor reflected on how it’s significant for the city to have such hostings. Bowser quipped, “We believe in investing in sports because they have helped us transform neighborhoods, and the NFL bringing this event to the nation’s capital will help us fill hotel rooms, our restaurants.” As a result, this will boost the city’s economy.

Magic Johnson and the Commanders are going back in history!

The Commanders are finally heading back to where it all began – RFK, the stadium which was demolished in 2019. And this time, it’s bigger than football. We’re talking a $3.7 billion game-changer for D.C. Co-owner Magic Johnson’s team is not just building a stadium; they’re giving life to 180 acres that sat quiet for too long. A new roofed stadium is coming, sure, but it’s only a piece of the puzzle. The rest? It’s parks, homes, restaurants, hotels, and places families can actually use. And guess what? At least 30% of the housing will be affordable.

Commanders’ owner Josh Harris is putting down $2.7 billion – the biggest private investment the city’s ever seen. And D.C.’s backing it too, with over $1 billion in public funds. Not everyone’s on board though. Some council members are pushing back, worried about the costs. But for fans who remember the glory days at RFK, this feels personal. This is their home.

So, as per reports, the ground’s expected to break in 2026, with the new stadium of Magic Johnson and the Commanders is ready by 2030. But even before kickoff, this project promises to turn a forgotten stretch of land into something the whole city can be proud of!
