Those were hot Palm Beach days when 32 NFL team owners and head coaches discussed very important things in February 2025. And two of the most important things discussed took center stage. One was playoff seedings proposed by the Detroit Lions, and the other was tush push. The brotherly shovel has a headache for many teams. And that’s why they are fighting against the Eagles and the National Football League to ban the same. But are Dan Quinn‘s Washington Commanders on the same page?

First of all, the Commanders are not really thinking of tush push the way the Packers and the Bills are. But before finding out Dan Quinn’s stance, let’s find out how this Commanders’ player is standing against his franchise. Star player, Frankie Luvu, thinks the NFL should ban the Eagles’ Tush Push this week: “I think they should ban it. It’s a cheat code play. It’s pretty much a scrum in rugby.” He was talking in the context of the NFL owners’ meeting.

The NFL owners are meeting for the 2nd time this offseason in Minnesota from May 20 to 21, 2025. The Packers in Palm Beach meeting proposed the NFL to ban tush push. Tush push, also known as brotherly shove, is actually a tactic used by Jalen Hurts’ Eagles. The offensive players push the QB after the snap to get that one sec of opportunity to force the opponents and gain some yards.

It looks normal, but there are tremendous chances of injury in the tush push. It’s benefits became quite prominent in the 2023 Super Bowl when Hurts and his team used this technique multiple times to gain touchdowns, and yards, for that matter. The Packers and Sean McDermott‘s Bills have cited injury as the main concern behind banning this technique. Sadly, the Bills are the 2nd highest benefited franchise from tush push after the Eagles.

It’s actually not a trick that the Philadelphia team uses. And that’s why Frankie Luvu, who is himself a member of the Commanders’ defensive squad, want it banned. But does the franchise think the same way? Absolutely not. In fact, Dan Quinn is fired up to find something important in this whole issue of banning the sneaky trick of getting TDs. Let’s understand what Dan Quinn’s views are on tush push.

Dan Quinn’s stance on the tush push revealed

Dan Quinn’s point of view was revealed on Monday, as Commanders Nation published a piece addressing the topic. First things first, Dan Quinn is not on the same page. The Packers and the Bills have been vocal in urging the NFL to ban the controversial tush push play. But the Commanders, along with head coach Dan Quinn, appear to be taking a different stance. Quinn has not aligned with those calling for a ban, suggesting instead that the play is simply part of the evolving physicality and strategy of the modern game.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the Eagles' Tush Push a genius strategy or an unfair advantage that needs banning?

While defining his stance against the highly debated topic, Quinn said, “My two cents is, I’m going to keep digging as hard as I can to make sure we find ways to defend [the Tush Push] better. We’re going to compete to see if we can stop it.” So, instead of fighting against the Eagles, the Commanders want to challenge their defensive squad.

Tush push will be a major cause of concern for the Commanders. The reason behind this is, in 2025, the Commanders will be going head-to-head against the Eagles for two times in the regular season. So, defending their offensive players from pushing Jalen Hurts will be their main task. There is actually no proper strategy against tush push. But let’s see if the Commanders can find a perfect reply for that.
