It is the second week of the 2025 season. Packers vs Commanders! Both teams have won their starters. While the Washington are coming off a dominant 21-6 win against the NY Giants, the Packers also defeated the Lions with ease by 27-13. So, the competition was going to be intense. However, what happened on the field with Trey Amos raised the bar even higher than anyone’s expectations.

Jordan Love took the ball and ran to his right. He kept looking at open receivers to his left, but suddenly, the rival CB Trey Amos came in his path. Determined not to lose possession, Love used his right shoulder to hit the CB. Amos withered in pain as the medical team took him to the locker room. It was later reported that he was questionable to return.

Before going down with an injury, the rookie cornerback made a play that looked like pure magic, and it may have cost him the game. On a critical fourth down, with the Packers’ Jordan Love targeting rookie WR Matthew Golden in the end zone, Amos leaped, swatted the pass away, and denied what seemed like a certain touchdown. The scoreboard stayed frozen, the crowd erupted, and for a moment, Amos was untouchable.

For a rookie who fought his way from Louisiana to Alabama to Ole Miss, earning First Team All-SEC honors, this injury twist feels especially cruel. Amos has a track record of making plays that matter. Across 61 college games, he recorded 122 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 31 passes defended. At Ole Miss in 2024, he racked up 50 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 13 passes defended, allowing a minuscule completion rate on deep throws.

Trey Amos had been quietly stealing the spotlight all summer. “Just trying to get comfortable, understanding the defense, getting to know my players, getting to know my coaches and just trusting them and trying to gain respect,” he had said back in July. Every tackle, every break, every hustle was his statement. And now the league waits, wondering if this breakout story hits a pause.

But glory has a price. Landing awkwardly after the deflection, and later colliding with Love’s shoulder. His absence tilted the game in the Packers’ favor as they led the game 14-3 at 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter. However, the Packers also had a concerning moment.

Jayden Reed also injures his shoulder after Trey Amos

Packers’ Jayden Reed suffered a harsh blow against the Commanders, leaving fans and teammates holding their breath. On the Packers’ first drive, Reed hauled in a touchdown pass from Jordan Love, only to land awkwardly on his right shoulder. The play was nullified due to a penalty, but the damage to Reed was real. He left the field grimacing in pain and did not return, ruled out for the rest of the game.

Did Jordan Love's aggressive play cross the line, or is it just part of the game?

This injury hits at a critical time. With Christian Watson already on the PUP list until at least Week 5, Green Bay’s receiving corps is stretched thin. The offense will now rely heavily on Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, Malik Heath, and tight end Tucker Kraft to fill the void left by Reed’s absence.

Reed’s impact on the field has been undeniable. In 2023, he posted 64 receptions for 793 yards and 8 touchdowns, adding 119 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs. Last season, he improved further with 55 receptions for 857 yards and 6 touchdowns, plus 163 rushing yards and a rushing TD. In Week 1 of 2025, he already showcased his explosiveness with 3 receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Green Bay now faces a test of resilience. The Packers’ offense must find new ways to thrive, or risk seeing a promising season stumble before it truly begins.
