Both head coach Brian Schottenheimer and team owner Jerry Jones emphasized that the veteran’s arrival is about adding depth, not replacing Micah Parsons.
“Jadeveon is just another good member of our football team. Let’s not go overboard. We’re thrilled that we’re adding a really good football player. But he’s not here to replace anybody. He’s here to play great defense and help us,” Schottenheimer said.

Fans will get their first look at Clowney in action at practice on Wednesday (Sept. 17).
The move also comes with built-in familiarity. Clowney and Brian Schottenheimer worked together in Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 season, and they reconnected before the signing, according to The Dallas Morning News’ Joseph Hoyt.

“I respect him a lot,” Clowney said. “I’m going to play hard for the guy and just try to do my job for this team.”
On a one-year, $6 million deal, Clowney gets seven primetime games to show he can still be a difference-maker.

While the owner didn’t hint at any replacements, he did express his expectations for the player to elevate the defense for the team. Jones further added subtly hinting at the Parsons’ trade:

“He has been an outstanding player, and he’ll add some real depth. And he’s very credible, and he’ll help us. It’s the kind of thing that we will continue to do. It’s a lot of the reason we handle our roster the way that we have it. So, we can do these kinds of things.”
That confidence may not be misplaced. Back in 2024 with the Carolina Panthers, the player had 5.5 sacks. The only Cowboys player who had more than 5.5 sacks that year was Parsons.
Now, with Sam Williams, Marshawn Kneeland, Dante Fowler Jr., Donovan Ezeiruaku, and James Houston, the Cowboys are confident about their unit of pass rushers.
As for the linebacker, he seems content with his transition to a new team, and even the owner spoiling his players.
Is Jerry Jones spoiling the players?
Clowney doesn’t see it as a problem. After playing for seven different teams, he admitted The Star feels unlike anything he’s experienced.
“I’ve been on seven teams, and this place is a lot different than any place I’ve been. They got a lot for these guys. They’re a little spoiled. Jerry Jones spoils his teams. You gotta play well when you’re spoiled like this. You want to be in a place like this for a while. Play good so you can stay around,” Clowney said.
The veteran also shared that while some of his family members are Cowboys fans, others aren’t — a split that reflects the rivalry he’s now part of. Looking ahead, Clowney said he hopes to debut in Week 3 against the Bears but stressed the decision rests with the coaches.

“Micah Parsons is Micah Parsons. I’m Jadeveon Clowney. I’m coming in to do me and just do my thing and try to help in any way I can and play football,” he added.
Over 11 seasons, Clowney has totaled 58 sacks, 139 quarterback hits, and 409 tackles across stops with the Texans, Seahawks, Titans, Browns, Ravens, and most recently the Panthers. Now in Dallas, he’s banking on a fresh start under Brian Schottenheimer… And maybe a little Jerry Jones spoiling to spark his next chapter.
