Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t get it done in Week 6. The loss dropped them to 2-3-1. Now, the focus shifts to Week 7. The Washington Commanders are coming to AT&T Stadium, and HC Brian Schottenheimer has a message for the team.

According to Schottenheimer, this next matchup won’t be a walk in the park. “They’ve got a good scheme, they’re very aggressive, they’re going to get in your face. And they’ve done a great job of creating a pass rush. I think they’re third in the league right now in sacks. And they’re going to try to disrupt your timing on the outside with man-to-man coverage,” he said.
However, Washington’s defense isn’t sitting at third in sacks anymore. They’re fifth in the NFC with 18. Still, that’s a threat. Dallas, by comparison, has just 11 sacks to its name. The numbers say the Commanders can pressure the quarterback, but they’re far from flawless. They’re 26th in yards allowed per play at 5.7, and that’s not a stat to ignore.

To make things worse, they’ve forced only three turnovers through six games, tied for 30th with the Ravens. So while the pressure might come, the big defensive plays haven’t followed. Sure, they’re 10th in completions allowed, but they’ve given up the 24th-most passing yards (1,411). That’s 7.0 net yards per attempt, 27th in the league. Still, Schottenheimer isn’t dismissing them.
He knows Commanders’ defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. can flip the script fast. “Well, I think Joe is an incredible teacher. I love the way he teaches and demands. It’s a little bit what we believe in here. He’s tough. He’s about the details,” Schottenheimer said. “But a really good football coach and a guy that stresses you out when you’re trying to game plan.”

And that’s where the warning hits hardest. Dak and the Cowboys can’t afford another flat night. However, they got some of their offensive tools back before the SNF clash.

Key offensive players are back for Brian Schottenheimer
The Dallas Cowboys finally got some good news rolling into the weekend. After a rough few injury updates earlier in the week, things turned around fast. CB Trevon Diggs is dealing with a strange concussion incident that happened at home Thursday night, but that’s not where the story ends.
The star wideout CeeDee Lamb is set to return. So is Kavontae Turpin, one of the most electric playmakers in Big D. Add linebacker Jack Sanborn and rookie right guard Tyler Booker to that mix, and suddenly, this Cowboys lineup looks a lot stronger.
That boost couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Cowboys’ offense has quietly been one of the most efficient units in the league. They’re averaging 6.0 yards per play, good enough for fourth in the NFL. That’s balance and explosiveness combined. Even with six turnovers on the year, ranking 15th, Dallas still sits second in total first downs with 140, just one shy of the Colts.
The Cowboys are also one of the least penalized offenses in football, sitting 27th in offensive penalties. And when defenses mess up, Dallas makes them pay. 19 first downs have come from opponent penalties, the most in the league. Over half of their drives, 50.8 percent, end in points.
And right now, Dak Prescott is also red hot. Over his last three games, Prescott has completed 71.8 percent of his passes for a 127.4 rating, tossing 11 touchdowns with zero picks. During that stretch, the Cowboys have averaged 34.7 points per game.
