The Dallas Cowboys are finally getting one of their explosive weapon back. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is returning to play Week 7 after going down with an ankle injury in Week 3. During that phase, Lamb missed 3 back-to-back games and plenty of action. As he sets out to return to the field, the 26-year-old recalls the feeling of urgency and hunger.

“That’s not why I’m hungry,” Lamb said. “Why I’m hungry is me missing time and doing what I love and playing with the guys that I love and breaking the huddle and being able to just go out there and be me.”

He saw limited action in the last two practice sessions. However, he reassured that he is healthy to return. “I feel like I’m moving around, running around being me,” Lamb said. “Happy as can be obviously just believing in my ankle. Obviously, I feel like it’s back to where I needed it to be.” But he isn’t the only one to be happy.

The Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, is thrilled, too, to have his receiver back. “A lot of excitement. Just the last two days of practice, he looks good,” he said. “He’s ready to go. Obviously, I saw him last weekend during rehab, and he probably could’ve went then. Being careful. But he’s ready to go. Looks great. It’s going to be fun.”

Before going down with an injury, CeeDee Lamb was off to a blazing start, stacking up two straight 100-yard games to open the season. Now, he’s just 51 scrimmage yards shy of hitting 7,000 for his career. That, too, in just 85 games, which is the fastest in the team. Over the past three seasons, he’s been a model of consistency, crossing the 100-catch and 1,000-yard mark every single year, except in 2021, when he fell short in receptions (79), despite pulling a 1,102-yard season.

He will look to have the same impact when he returns to action in Week 7. As for his return, he feels fully recovered and confident. He could have returned to the 27 – 30 loss to the Carolina Panthers. But he chose to rest an extra week to regain full explosiveness and stability.

The Cowboys will need that to boost their already explosive offense with Prescott and wide receiver George Pickens. (One fact: Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin is also set to return)

Despite missing CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys’ offense has been impressive

In the absence of Lamb, the Cowboys’ offense has been impressive with Prescott and Pickens. Prescott has 13 touchdown passes and just 3 interceptions, while Pickens has two 100-yard games with six touchdowns till now in this season.

In fact, the entire Cowboys’ offense has been on fire lately. Over their last three games, they’ve put up 40, 37, and 27 points. Prescott has been a big reason for that. He threw 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions during this stretch. He is now the first quarterback since 1950 to hit double-digit TDs with no turnovers over three starts and still not have a winning record.

He’s completed 72% of his passes for 817 yards. It’s not just Prescott. Pickens had two 100-yard games, four touchdowns in Lamb’s absence. He racked up 134 yards against the Packers and 168 yards against the Panthers. Wide receiver Ryan Flournoy added 114 yards versus the New York Jets. Pickens has scored in five straight games, including a 34-yard touchdown catch against Carolina.

And to think they’ve been doing all of this with CeeDee Lamb sidelined, that’s some serious depth and versatility. But if the defense can limit mistakes, the offense has shown its potential. With an average of 6.0 yards per offensive play, the Cowboys are returning with Lamb. Now, they will have everything to keep momentum going as they gear up to take on the Washington Commanders next week, and a win seems well within reach.
