.The Dallas Cowboys offense is founded on faith. Faith in Dak Prescott‘s leadership, in their deep playmakers, and perhaps most surprisingly, in a running back many thought might never return to form. That belief, led by head coach Brian Schottenheimer, has paid off in full. Javonte Williams, once unsure if he’d play football again, is now leading the NFC in rushing and validating one of Dallas’ boldest offseason gambles.

“I thought it was over,” he said, remembering when the ACL and LCL injury devastated him in Denver. Williams’ journey is the kind of tale that makes NFL stories so compelling. But Schottenheimer saw something in him. Williams’ vision and relentlessness convinced Dallas to bet on him over Rico Dowdle, last year’s 1,000-yard rusher.

“Rico was a guy we considered keeping,” Schottenheimer said. “But we kind of fell in love with Javonte.” So far, Williams has given the front office every reason to believe in him.

Williams is currently third in the NFL in rushing with 447 yards, averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry, and he’s fueling an offense that thrives on both balance and explosiveness. His 25 rushing first downs lead the league, and his tough running style has made him the Cowboys’ go-to guy. Schottenheimer can’t hide his admiration for the running back.

“I’m the president of Javonte’s fan club. He gets stronger as the game goes,” the coach said. For Williams, the return post the injury is personal. “I’m glad I came here,” he said. “The coaches have a lot of trust in me. I like my teammates… I’m just glad I’m back healthy.” In a season filled with Cowboys storylines, none may be sweeter than a comeback that turned doubt into dominance.

While Schottenheimer sets the tone, Klayton Adams’s strategic touch has turned the Cowboys’ rushing attack into one of the league’s most efficient units.

Klayton Adams quietly transformed the Cowboys’ run game

The first-year offensive coach, Klayton Adams, may not be calling plays, but he has been the architect behind Dallas’ remarkable turnaround in the run game. Through five weeks, the Cowboys are averaging 34 more rushing yards per game and have already scored seven rushing touchdowns, surpassing last year’s total.

“He’s really finding his flow,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s great in the room…funny, loose, and the players feed off that.”

Adams’ fingerprints are all over Dallas’ success. The former Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach helped engineer a top-10 rushing attack before joining the Cowboys. His motto is simple: ‘Be aggressive, run, and hit.’

“He doesn’t ask players to do too much,” defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus said. “He makes it hard for defenses.” Quarterback Dak Prescott praised Adams for his ‘intensity and focus.’ If Dallas’ ground game continues to roll, this stretch may soon be remembered as the moment Adams’ quiet genius went mainstream and the Cowboys rediscovered their edge.
