Dak Prescott and Sarah Jane Ramos were three weeks away from getting married in Lake Como when the relationship fell apart. What started as a broken engagement quickly turned into a courtroom filing, a public back-and-forth, and two attorneys speaking carefully on behalf of people who clearly weren’t ready to speak for themselves. But on Thursday, there was a big step forward in the courtroom proceedings.

Dak Prescott and his ex-fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos, who had been heading toward a court hearing over custody of their two daughters, agreed to amicably negotiate a temporary arrangement outside the courtroom. The hearing scheduled for Thursday was postponed, and the two sides are now working toward a resolution before an April 16 deadline.
“The parties are working together. My client’s very happy with the course that this matter is going,” Ramos’ Miami-based family law attorney Raymond Rafool told Page Six.
Prescott’s attorney, Levi G. McCathern II, was careful to note that “the case is not resolved,” but added that the two had agreed to try to handle things without a judge in the room. He was clear about where his client’s head is at.

“Dak is an absolutely phenomenal father and is looking forward to working with Sarah Jane to develop a healthy co-parent relationship and do what is in the best interests of his children.”
The custody filing itself came on March 17th, when Prescott filed a Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship, a SAPCR, in Collin County, Texas, where the two had been living together. In Texas, an SAPCR is the standard legal tool used by unmarried parents to formally define custody, visitation, child support, and medical responsibilities.

Prescott’s filing argued that it was “in the best interest of the children” that both he and Ramos be appointed joint managing conservators of their daughters. The fact that he filed at all surprised some people. But given what had transpired in the weeks prior, perhaps it shouldn’t have.
It all started when Prescott and Ramos returned from a joint bachelor-bachelorette party in the Bahamas. This was the trip that, by most accounts, was where things finally broke open. Ramos allegedly discovered that Prescott had been using incognito social media profiles to send messages to multiple women, including former romantic interests.
The infidelity allegations weren’t entirely new, according to people close to the situation. Sources told Page Six that Ramos had suspected a pattern of behavior throughout their relationship but stayed, hoping things would change for the sake of their family. She had reportedly issued Prescott an ultimatum as far back as January. She confronted him over the alleged communications and made clear what she needed from him going forward. He didn’t deliver. On March 7th, she called off the wedding. Two days later, the couple sent a joint email to their guests apologizing for the cancellation.
Prescott and Ramos met and started dating in May 2023. Prescott proposed just eight months into the relationship. Their daughter Margaret arrived in February 2024, and their second daughter Aurora was born in May 2025. Publicly, they looked like a family that had figured it out. Ramos regularly shared photos of their life, and Prescott spoke warmly about fatherhood in interviews. Whatever was happening behind closed doors didn’t make it into those pictures.
Now, with the wedding date approaching, April 10th, the day they were originally supposed to say their vows in Lake Como, both Prescott and Ramos appear to be choosing the harder but more dignified road. The legal fight isn’t over, and there’s still an April 16 hearing on the calendar if negotiations stall.
But the fact that both sides are talking and that Ramos’ attorney used the word “amicably,” and that Prescott’s team emphasized co-parenting over conflict, suggests that whatever happened between them personally, there’s a shared understanding that Margaret and Aurora come first.
Cowboys head coach breaks silence as Dak Prescott navigates off-field storm
The 2026 season opener is still five months away, so Dak Prescott has ample time to regroup and gear up for the upcoming season amid a crisis in his personal life. The Cowboys’ coach Brian Schottenheimer recently reflected on the quarterback’s personal life and how he had been coping with it.
“Dak and I have had a ton of conversations,” Schottenheimer said to Cowboys beat reporter Jon Machota. “He’s in a really good spot. Obviously, what he’s dealing with is incredibly tough. But if anyone can handle it, he can.”

While Prescott’s breakup remains one of the high-profile off-field NFL conversations right now, it’s ambiguous exactly why the wedding was called off. While many reports suggested that it was fueled by infidelity allegations against the 32-year-old, another interesting rumor circulated that after the $240 million contract extension of the Cowboys star, his former fiancée didn’t agree to sign a prenup, which might have contributed to their separation. However, Ramos dismissed the prenup rumor on social media.
Either way, both have maintained secrecy about the exact reason behind the wedding cancellation.
