Dak Prescott might be the most polarizing quarterback in football right now. Half the world swears he’s overachieving with a flawed roster, the other half blames him for every Cowboys collapse since 2016. There’s no middle ground. But one guy who’s firmly in Dak’s corner? Brian Schottenheimer. Though in his mind, Prescott’s biggest problem isn’t accuracy, decision-making, or durability. It’s Jerry Jones.

Big Ben claimed that he’s better than most people think, but Jones is holding him back. “I like Dak. I think he’s better than people give him credit for,” he said. “But I think injuries have plagued him. I have no issues with him. I think Jerry Jones will always hold them back for some reason. As much as he wants to win, I just don’t know why he does some of the things he does. I’m going to call them pretenders,” he added.

That’s about as on-brand as it gets for the Cowboys: a QB who’s simultaneously underrated and over-scrutinized, stuck under the NFL’s most unpredictable owner. When Dallas drafted Prescott in 2016, they handed him the keys to the most famous franchise in sports. And while Dak’s had his moments, his career has been rather shaky.

You can blame a lot of that on injuries. Ankle dislocation occurred in 2020. The thumb fracture in 2023. The hamstring avulsion last season. It’s been one physical setback after another. But if you believe Big Ben, the problem runs deeper than what’s on the injury report.

Nobody doubts Jerry Jones’ love for this team. He practically bleeds silver and blue. But love doesn’t always equal logic. Just look at how he handled Micah Parsons this offseason. He managed to turn one of the locker room’s most respected players into a headline villain, stirring controversy where there didn’t need to be any. Maybe Jerry wanted to send a message that no one’s bigger than the team. But all he did was fracture the internal atmosphere.

In Week 5, questions swirled about how the injury-depleted Dallas Cowboys could pull off a win. Playing the New York Jets, however, answered those doubts emphatically. Powered by a dynamic offense and a defense firing on all cylinders, the Cowboys rolled to a convincing 37-22 victory.

With Dak Prescott continuing his stellar play, the Dallas offense showed no signs of struggle. Prescott completed 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards, throwing four touchdowns with no interceptions, posting a 127.4 passer rating.

Benefiting from Prescott’s precision was second-year receiver Ryan Flournoy, who racked up 114 receiving yards, surpassing his entire 2024 rookie season total of 102. Tight end Jake Ferguson was also heavily involved, hauling in seven catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Javonte Williams continued his strong season with 135 rushing yards, marking his first 100-yard game in a Cowboys uniform, along with a touchdown.

For Dak, chaos is just another hurdle. Three head coaches in less than a decade, constant media storms, and an owner who’s… controversial. That’s not exactly the environment for consistent quarterbacking. Still, the people who know greatness best are rooting for him.

Troy Aikman has high expectations of Dak Prescott

Troy Aikman won’t mind Dak Prescott breaking all the records Aikman set as a Cowboys QB. “I love Dak,” Aikman said. “There’s nothing I’d rather see than see him go on and win a Super Bowl and win multiple Super Bowls, and win more than me, and Roger Staubach and all of us combined, if possible, because he’s that type of guy, and he represents himself and the organization, and really our city so well.”

Coming from a guy with three rings (and mentioning Staubach’s two), that’s high praise. But also… six Super Bowls for a 32-year-old quarterback? Let’s just say it would be one of the greatest redemption arcs in NFL history. Given the injuries, the instability, and the drama surrounding this team, even one ring would feel monumental.

Dak’s response? “I got to get going then. I don’t know if I got that many years left. And the urgency is showing. The Cowboys may be 2-2-1, but Prescott’s been quietly putting up MVP-level numbers.

After a solid but unspectacular start, Dak’s caught fire in the last two games against the Packers and Jets. Across those outings, he’s thrown for 556 yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It’s been that version of Dak that Cowboys fans have been waiting for since his rookie year. Do you think a first Super Bowl ring for Dak Prescott is realistic from what you’ve seen so far this season?
