Jerry Jones is making waves both on and off the field. The Dallas Cowboys owner has confirmed a secret trade is underway, stirring buzz ahead of the NFL deadline. At the same time, he is flexing the franchise’s $2B brand power by bringing the NHL’s 2027 Stadium Series to AT&T Stadium.

The Dallas Cowboys were valued at around $2.9 billion in 2024, showing how powerful the brand is. Now, Jones is using that influence to host one of hockey’s biggest events, helping grow both the NFL and NHL. It’s all part of his plan to bring major sports moments to North Texas.

Speaking about Jones and the NHL-NFL crossover, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said, “Ever since its opening in 2009, Jerry Jones has been advocating for an outdoor game at this amazing venue. And we are delighted to partner with the Cowboys and Stars — two franchises dedicated to the fans of North Texas.” Jones echoed the same enthusiasm.

The Cowboys’ owner said he, too, was excited. “Hosting the NHL Stadium Series with the Dallas Stars is another great example of the vision we’ve always had for what AT&T Stadium could be beyond football,” he said.

The Cowboys already average more than 93,000 fans per home game, the most in the NFL, and this event is expected to draw even more fans to the stadium for the NHL. The Stars attracted 85,630 fans during the 2020 Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl.

Only two games in NHL history have ever surpassed the 90,000 mark, making this a potential record-setting moment.

The 2027 Stadium Series further strengthens AT&T Stadium’s reputation as a global venue for major sporting events. Since its opening in 2009, it has hosted Super Bowl XLV, the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship, and the 2018 NFL Draft.

The stadium has also welcomed the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, the 2014 Final Four, international soccer matches, and WrestleMania events in 2016 and 2022. Few stadiums in the world have hosted such a diverse and high-profile calendar, underscoring Jerry Jones’ brand vision to position AT&T Stadium as a global sports hub.

While celebrating this historic hockey partnership, Jerry Jones also added some fuel to NFL speculation.

‘Certainly have made a trade,’ says Jerry Jones

The Cowboys owner teased fans by confirming that a trade has already been planned, and more could be on the way, but he wouldn’t name names or go into any detail.

During an interview with Stephen A. Smith on SiriusXM last week, Jones hinted at incoming help but was deliberately vague: “A lot of action going on right now in terms of trading, we certainly have made a trade and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline.”

Jones later emphasized that fans would have to wait until the paperwork is finalized to learn who the Cowboys are adding. That secrecy sparked speculation among Dallas fans and NFL analysts.

He did offer one clue: the new player will help in an area where the team has struggled, most likely on defense, where the Cowboys have had trouble generating consistent pressure.

Still, the Cowboys may be exploring other options as well. Jones’ confident tone suggests that moves are already in motion. With the trade deadline approaching, the mystery only adds to the excitement.
