Last season, the Cowboys’ title hopes went down with Dak Prescott. Fresh off his record-setting four-year, $240 million extension on September 8, 2024, the QB looked ready to lead Dallas deep into the playoffs. He started strong, throwing 179 yards and a touchdown in the opener, then 379 yards and two TDs in Week 3. But in week 9, disaster struck. Prescott tore part of his right hamstring. Surgery ended his season. He finished 2024 with just 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while the Cowboys limped to a 3–5 record. Career lows across the board left fans frustrated and wary.

Fast forward to 2025, and the injury cloud has returned. CeeDee Lamb went down on September 21, Week 3 against Chicago, with a high-ankle sprain. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks, likely out through Week 6. NFL insider Ian Rapoport claimed he might be out for next 2 games. Lamb had been off to a hot start with 22 catches for 278 yards and two touchdowns in three games. Losing him isn’t just a missing receiver, it forces Dak and the offense to rely on secondary targets and short passes. The rhythm of the passing game takes a hit, and defenses will exploit the absence immediately.

The offensive line is also under siege. Rookie Tyler Booker, who played all 74 snaps against the Bears, is sidelined for 4–6 weeks with a high-ankle sprain. Cooper Beebe remains on IR with ankle and foot injuries. That leaves Dallas thin at the heart of the line just as Week 4 vs. Green Bay approaches. Dak’s protection will be fragile. Expect quicker passes, more checkdowns, and a heavier reliance on the run game, though that too has struggled.
On defense, there’s a glimmer of hope. DaRon Bland (foot) could return in Week 4. The secondary has allowed 231.7 passing yards per game without him, so his presence is crucial. Even so, the team enters October limping. Injuries are stacking up, echoing last year’s struggles. Key players are out, depth is thin, and any misstep could snowball.

The next month may define the Cowboys’ season. With injuries mounting, they are staring down a familiar test. Can they overcome adversity, or will history repeat itself?
CeeDee Lamb’s team faces revenge in the Week 4 game against the Packers
September 28 will be a heart-wrenching moment for the fans in AT&T Stadium. Micah Parsons, a former Cowboy turned Packers, will be coming back. Emotions will be running hot. Parsons has a personal vendetta to impose his will, forcing hurried throws, creating turnovers, and making his former team pay for every misstep.
The offensive line, long the Cowboys’ hallmark, has taken a heavy hit. Jerry Jones admitted bluntly, “I thought one of our strengths this year is that offensive line. Bottom line is that is a setback for us.” Center Cooper Beebe is on IR until at least Week 7, and rookie guard Tyler Booker is sidelined 4–6 weeks with a high-ankle sprain. That leaves TJ Bass and Trevor Keegan in the fold. Losing Booker hurts more than people realize, he was already one of Dallas’ top run blockers.

The week 3 game against the Bears gave a massive lesson to CeeDee Lamb’s QB, Dak Prescott. For three quarters in Week 3, the QB kept fighting. He searched for answers, hunting that one drive that could flip the script. But then the call came to pull him back to sideline. He wanted to stay in, and he admitted it afterward. “Obviously I want every rep. I’m never happy about being pulled out,” he said. “But you have to be realistic and professional about where the game was.”
Prescott’s final stats read 31 of 40 for 251 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The Cowboys managed 396 total yards, but only 14 points, six from field goals. Backup Joe Milton went 3 of 5 for 41 yards with an interception, but it didn’t matter. The Bears, led by Caleb Williams, were sharp with 19 of 28 for 298 yards and four touchdowns.
