The Dallas Cowboys finally did it! Despite all those whispers and speculations that Jadeveon Clowney is only entertaining them to raise his market value, the America’s Team didn’t give up. A couple of days later, Clowney finally gave in to their resilience. You know, there’s another thing that contradicts the narrative. The pass rusher isn’t signing for crazy money; in fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed it’s only around $6 million. So did he actually want to test the market by having Jerry Jones’ Cowboys pursue him, or was the reason to visit them something else? Don’t worry, as the star himself put an end to this mystery.

Throughout the Summer of 2025, the Cowboys made every effort to keep Micah Parsons on board. But even their best deal didn’t check the boxes that the four-time All-Pro edge rusher thought he deserved. So he moved on. Landed in Wisconsin with the Green Bay Packers, signing the highest-paid non-QB deal worth $188 million. It was everything he wanted. While this was happening, Dallas settled for a couple of first-round picks and Kenny Clark. But they had their eyes on someone else, who was available in the market. Of course, they did their best to sell Clark as a worthy replacement for Parsons; they weren’t fooling anyone. However, now that Clowney is on board, they don’t need to sell him to the fans. They know.
Clowney wasn’t using The Boys; he visited them for only one reason: to sign. If you must know what actually convinced him, it was oddly Parsons’ trade. “As soon as Kenny Clark signed here, I told my agent, I was like, I think that would be a good move for me,” Clowney told Dallas Cowboys reporter Nicole Hutchison. As for why he considered it a good move: “They got a good secondary. They got good detachments. They just need a good hand for me. And I need to be there.”

So he asked his agent to make a move to Texas. “And I’m here,” he concluded. His agent, Kennard McGuire, also corroborated Clowney’s words, saying, “Playing for the Dallas Cowboys was the priority Day 1 upon his release from the Panthers.” In Clowney, Jones found the right player to fill in Parsons’ shoes, giving a gigantic boost to the team’s pass rush. That too, just in 12 days.

When the 32-year-old entered the free agency market, pundits expected him to chase money this time. Not lead in the dark with a one-year deal. But once again, he put money secondary. “I got seven primetime games to prove and show the world. That was my whole thought on coming down here,” he told the reporters. He also considers himself rather lucky, especially after seeing Terence Crawford’s competitive drive at the age of 37. And Clowney has just entered his 30s; he “got a lot left in the tank.” What’s better is that he wouldn’t wait around for too long. Dallas has big plans for him.
Brian Schottenheimer’s energy played a part in Jadeveon Clowney’s decision
The person walking on Cloud Nine inside the Cowboys clubhouse right now is definitely Brian Schottenheimer. Since the time the veteran visited the team, Dallas’ head coach has constantly spoken about his ‘personal relationship’ with him, suggesting him as a favorite to be considered by Clowney. Of course, it wasn’t the sole reason; it was certainly one of the biggest ones.
“He was a great coach in Seattle. The guys loved him, an energy guy,” said Clowney when Hutchinson asked about his ‘personal relationship’ with his former offensive coordinator. “When he got here and gave me a call about coming, I was like, oh, yeah, you know, ‘I love to play for your energy, where, you know, how to take care of the team.’ And, you know, I believe in that. And that was half of my reason I wanted to come, too, because I played up on him, played with him before.” Clowney knows Schottenheimer’s offensive mind; thus, he knows it would be a good system in the Cowboys.

As the headlines began crawling all over the newest addition to Dallas, Schottenheimer didn’t celebrate it as a personal win; instead, it was a big win for the team. They might have opened the season with a 1-1 record, but things are expected to only get better from here on. “He’s not here just to be a pass rusher, he’s here to play defense and to affect the game and stop the run and affect the quarterback by moving him off the spot,” said the head coach. That’s why America’s Team isn’t holding him off the field for too long. At the earliest, he is expected to make his debut as a Cowboy in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears.
