Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys’ efforts might not have worked with Micah Parsons. But he sure is optimistic about Brandon Aubrey. Having all the leverage on the negotiation table, the kicker is projected to land a record-breaking contract—like those by Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. After Jones’ recent words, Dallas surely isn’t letting the star kicker go anytime soon. Especially after he enchanted all eyes with his heroics against the New York Giants.

“He certainly is coming. We’ll be looking at that. Probably have had communications since the kick. But he’s certainly in the future,” Jones said.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan when asked about kicker Brandon Aubrey being next in line for a contract extension: “He certainly is coming. We’ll be looking at that. Probably have had communications since the kick. But he’s certainly in the future.”

As unsettling as the Week 1 loss to the defending Super Bowl champs was, Aubrey’s Week 2 heroics completely flipped the mood across Cowboys Nation. His 64-yard field goal at the buzzer forced overtime, tying one of the longest field goals in NFL history and keeping the Cowboys alive in a relentless battle against the Giants. When overtime arrived, Aubrey, once again, didn’t hesitate and delivered the game-winning kick as time expired to secure a thrilling 40-37 victory in Arlington. It was truly a roller coaster ride, featuring seven lead changes and two late TDs that had fans on the edge of their seats. In the end, it was Aubrey’s steady leg that made the difference.
So, of course, Jones wasn’t going to let him explore his options in the open market. Entering the final year, Aubrey was set to make $1.03 million this year. Since Week 2’s game, his contract extension has grabbed all the headlines. Thus, the negotiations seemed to have started as Jones confirmed.

If we evaluate the market, the current highest-paid kicker in the league is Harrison Butker, sitting with $25.6 million, making his annual salary around $6.4 million. Given Aubrey’s stats, including the 65-yarder—second highest in the league, he might touch around $28 million with an average annual salary of up $7 million, in negotiations.
While the projections have him valued at least above $26 million, money has never been Aubrey’s first priority. “If an extension comes, then an extension comes. If not, I’m still making 10 times what I was making working code [prior to football], so I’m pretty happy,” he told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram earlier this year in February.
So he has left the negotiations and expectations up to his agent. His focus? Football. That’s probably something that may convince Jones to create history once again in contract signing, like he did with Prescott. What’s more interesting is that Prescott and Aubrey have the same agent, Todd France.

Brandon Aubrey’s mindset powers record-long kick
In just three seasons, kicker Aubrey has established himself as a dependable force for Dallas. Showing impressive accuracy, he converted 78 of 87 attempts and excelled from beyond 50 yards with 25 of 28 made. His clutch kicking has repeatedly shifted momentum, making him an essential weapon in the Cowboys’ offensive arsenal. But if you ask him, it’s just the beginning. That 64-yard field goal and his previous record-setting 65-yarder with the Ravens weren’t a task to make him sweat. Kicking 60+ has become more like a normal thing for him.

In Aubrey’s view, he can comfortably “put it at 70, 71,” as he told Jane Slater of the NFL Network. But how exactly is that possible? The kicker revealed the key is to be overconfident. Ignoring conventional advice, Aubrey always tells himself that if anyone can do it, it’s him. It may sound bonkers, but being delusional works for him—like it does for the winners. “Just reminding myself that I’m built for this moment: ‘You’re the best person on the planet to do this job, so go out there and make the kick, ’” he revealed to PTT.

It looks like his head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, heard him pretty well. “We would try it from 70-ish. We’ve seen him make those before,” the head coach said. Echoing Aubrey’s words, Schottenheimer also appreciated the confidence Aubrey carries while making kicks. More often than not, he turns up incredibly accurate.
