Jerry Jones will be without one of his top weapons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, for the next several weeks. The Dallas Cowboys player went down with a high ankle sprain after he got pinned under Chicago Bears linebacker Noah Sewell during the game in Week 3. The injury came in the first quarter, when he was in the backfield taking a handoff. To make matters worse, guard Tyler Booker suffered the same injury. As John Machota reported on X, “The Cowboys will be without starters CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker for multiple weeks. Both have high ankle sprains. Jerry Jones is not ruling out injured reserve for either.

As Adam Schefter reported, “Jerry Jones told reporters that CeeDee Lamb’s ankle injury could land him on injured reserve.” After the injury, Lamb told reporters in the locker room that it’s not serious enough to sideline him for the next game against the Packers and that he had been stopped only for one reason. “So, once I start feeling much better and I start to get the strength back in my ankle as far as mobility and able to cut and like real dynamic movements — I was ready to go back out there but then they told me not to,” he said about the game.

It was clear the Cowboys’ doctors didn’t think Lamb was ready to step back on the field, not wanting to push him and risk making things worse. Now, even before the official word, Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter had reported he might miss a few games. Coach Brian Schottenheimer who had almost as much faith in Lamb’s recovery as the player did. Although he admitted that the player could be out for a while.

Schottenheimer explained that in Lamb’s absence, the rest of the players must step up. He went on to praise Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert for his performance and showed his faith in the squad, including wide receiver George Pickens. But it’s not easy to replace Lamb. Both the coach and owner, Jerry Jones, know this well. Lamb has been largely reliable, sitting out just three games in his career, once in 2021 with a concussion and twice last year with a shoulder injury. Just last year, he signed a four-year, $136 million contract, making him the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

That’s a setback for us,” Jones said. “….We got enough. We really do. But it is frustrating not just for this game but the fact that you’re looking at potentially games. That’s frustrating.”

Jones’ concern is understandable, as one of the Cowboys’ best players is likely to be sidelined for their game against the Green Bay Packers. While the team has yet to decide whether to place Lamb on injured reserve, there’s also another player under consideration.

The Cowboys have yet to decide on Tyler Booker’s timeline

Todd Archer reported that Booker is likely to be out for a few weeks. “The Cowboys will be without rookie guard Tyler Booker for 4-6 weeks because of a high ankle sprain suffered vs. the Bears, per source,” Archer wrote on his official X. He further added, “He played all 74 snaps. T.J. Bass looms as starter. Cowboys already w/o C Cooper Beebe for at least next three games.”

Now, much like with Lamb, the team has yet to decide if Booker will be placed on the injury reserve. “We’re looking at that,” Jones told CBS Sports NFL reporter Garrett Podell. “We’ll watch it a few more days. We don’t have to decide about that.”

He entered the Cowboys with much hype around him. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein predicted he’d fit perfectly in a power-based, downhill attack. The Cowboys signed him to a four-year, $22.553 million rookie contract. And they didn’t seem to regret the decision.

During the offseason, the 6-foot-5 lineman gained praise and approval from his teammates. “Despite the padless practices, Booker has impressed with his willingness to learn and work,” Archer wrote (June 24). “He has been with the starters from the first OTA through the minicamp, so there’s no pretense about what is expected. He is being viewed the same way the Cowboys have viewed Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Tyler Smith: as a Day 1 starter.”

However, both Booker and Lamb are likely to miss the action against the Packers unless a miracle happens.
