Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been placed on injured reserve due to a concussion and will not take the field against the Denver Broncos. This will mark the third straight season he’s missed at least four games. That raises questions about his immediate future with the team and how it will impact the Cowboys.

“A Trevon Diggs release in the offseason saves the Cowboys $54 million in cap space from 2026-2028,” Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr. wrote on X. “If he’s not traded, look for him to be a post june 1 cut.”
If he is listed as a post-June 1 release in the offseason, Dallas will save $15.5 million in cap, per Sportrac.

Back in 2023, Diggs signed a five-year extension with the Cowboys worth $97 million, including $33.3 million guaranteed at signing and $42.3 million in total guarantees. But after signing the extension deal, the CB has struggled to stay healthy. Since then, he has appeared in 19 of 38 games. In 2023, he missed 15 games due to his torn ACL.

Earlier this season, head coach Brian Schottenheimer had benched Diggs against the Green Bay Packers, saying that he was pretty “banged up.” It was, however, later revealed that the benching was due to an “off-the-field” issue.
“I guess it was coach holding me accountable and I accept it. It’s cool,” Diggs said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.
While there’s an upside to his release, the CB is a crucial player on the roster. And for this season, the team will hope for the player’s bizarre series of injuries to end, in case they don’t choose to part ways with him before the November 4 trade deadline.

What is the mystery with Trevon Diggs’ concussion?
This is the second game that the CB will miss due to his concussion. The injury was reportedly due to an accident that took place at his home. The details about the accident are still scarce. And while Schottenheimer said he knows more about what happened, he also made it clear that it was up to Diggs to share it with the media.
As per reporter Nick Harris, the player had arrived at the practice facility on Oct. 17 and showed concussion symptoms. Earlier on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Stephen Jones shared that the player is dealing with other injury issues, and time on IR is supposed to help him recover. This is all that is known about his injury so far.
Now on IR, Diggs is expected to show up on Thanksgiving when the Cowboys face the Kansas City Chiefs. Diggs isn’t the only one who has been ruled out for the Broncos game, though. Starting safeties Juanyeh Thomas (migraine) and Donovan Wilson (shoulder) are also out, while Malik Hooker is on IR with a toe injury.
