The Dallas Cowboys went to Week 8 looking to improve their record, but they failed miserably. The Denver Broncos rolled past them 44-24, leaving the Cowboys sitting at 3-4-1. Fans were upset and wanted quick answers. With the trade deadline looming, Jerry Jones finally broke his silence on what’s next.

“A loss is discouraging, but as far as my temperament, if I saw a proposition for us to help this team, no matter what this score was today, then I would look at it on the merits of helping this team,” Jones said to the reporter.

“If you’re talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I would completely look at it on the merits of this team, both for next week or the week after, or the long term.” Still, one player alone won’t fix the mess.

The defense has looked shaky all season. Injuries have ripped through that unit, and the pass rush hasn’t been the same since Trevon Diggs went down. Realistically, it’s going to take more than one splash move to get this group back on track. And according to reports, Jerry has already started working on it.

As per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Cowboys have already made trade offers for a pair of All-Pro pass-rushers. Specifically, Glazer reports that the Cowboys have presented trade offers to the Cincinnati Bengals for Trey Hendrickson and to the Las Vegas Raiders for Maxx Crosby. However, both attempts were turned down.

Now, with the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, time is running out for the Cowboys to make an impact move. But there’s a possibility.

The Bengals dropped to 3-5, which might push them to reconsider Hendrickson’s future. The pass rusher is entering his final contract year, though his recent hip injury complicates matters. Meanwhile, the Raiders had a bye week, meaning their stance on Crosby likely hasn’t budged.

But Jerry didn’t stop there, he also addressed Trevon Diggs’ future.

Will Jerry Jones wait for Diggs or pivot again

Trevon Diggs suffered a concussion in Week 7’s win over the Washington Commanders. That detail alone turned plenty of heads. Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the injury but kept things vague. No extra details, no clear timeline. And now, with Week 8 gone, Diggs’ absence has stretched longer than expected. Then came the bigger update.

Diggs has officially been ruled out for a second straight game and placed on injured reserve. That means he’s out for at least four weeks. The move surprised many in the Big D, especially with rumors swirling about his future in Dallas. Some even whispered about a potential trade.

The timing couldn’t have been more complicated, and naturally, Jerry Jones had to set the record straight.

So when Jerry was asked about Diggs’ status, his answer came without hesitation. “Yes. Why not? But there’s a little beyond my expectations. We’ve got to see how he heals from his injury. He hasn’t been there physically, there in full shape for us.”

So, he clearly wants Diggs back, though he knows it all depends on the recovery timeline. After all, Diggs was off to a solid start this season with 13 solo tackles and 5 assists in six games. His presence in the secondary changes everything for this defense.

Now the question isn’t about a trade anymore. It’s about when the Cowboys’ ball-hawking corner will be ready to suit up again.
