Brandon Aubrey’s 46-yard field goal sealed a 40-37 overtime win against the Giantss, giving Brian Schottenheimer his first victory as Cowboys head coach. Schottenheimer was thrilled, saying, “I will remember it forever.” But behind the joy, seeing his mother in pain made the moment bittersweet.

Before the Cowboys could fully celebrate the win, news emerged that the head coach’s family was facing a difficult time. First, two of his dogs suffered snake bites. Then came the worst blow, his mom, Pat, who’s about to turn 82, broke her arm after a fall at the airport. She was supposed to fly into Dallas but ended up needing surgery instead. The timing couldn’t have been worse.
Still, Brian found some light in all the darkness. “I figured something had to flip into good because this has been a crazy week,” Schottenheimer said. “But man, I just again, I’m such a blessed man, my family, but those guys in the locker room, that is my family too, and I love those guys and I’m so proud of them.”

However, his players stood by him, and even Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ passionate owner, showed up to lift his spirits. In the locker room, emotions ran high. Dak Prescott and Jones handed him the game ball, making the moment unforgettable.
“Cool way to win your first game. You know, you’ll remember it forever, but the words that Dak and the players said to me after the game is why it’s so special. It’s, I expect the first of many, but I’ll remember this one forever because of the fight in these guys,” Brian Schottenheimer admitted.

Despite the week’s curveballs, the first win felt like a small victory for the Schottenheimer family.

So how did Brian Schottenheimer’s Cowboys perform in Week 2?
The Cowboys barely escaped a disaster in Week 2. Thanks to Brandon Aubrey, they managed to snatch a 40-37 win in overtime against the Giants at AT&T Stadium. Yet, their defense deserves little credit.
Russell Wilson shredded them for 450 yards and three touchdowns. He was on fire. The only thing that saved the Silver and Blue was a lucky interception in OT. Wilson threw a deep pass that was clearly off-target.

The Giants’ mistake gave the Cowboys a golden chance. Donovan Wilson’s interception led to a big catch by George Pickens, a clutch run from Dak Prescott, and Brandon Aubrey’s fourth field goal, a 46-yarder that sealed the deal.

Moreover, Dallas seemed to hand the game back in the final moments of regulation. After taking the lead with under a minute left, Schottenheimer’s team just needed to hold on. Instead, Wilson connected with Malik Nabers for the go-ahead 48-yard touchdown. The Cowboys seemed doomed. However, Aubrey came through again, drilling a massive 64-yard field goal to tie the game. His feat was historic.
According to NBC, he became the first kicker to nail both a game-tying field goal at the end of regulation and the game-winner in overtime.
In the end, the Cowboys escaped with a win. That’s a relief, because a loss would’ve set off panic alarms in Big D. Still, the defense has a long way to go before they can even dream about the playoffs.
