As the second half of the NFL season fast approaches, playoff spots, and 2024 NFL Draft spots are in demand. One team that is fighting to be in the playoffs is the Dallas Cowboys, but their hopes have been dented, as Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is dealing with a monumental injury.

The Cowboys are 6-3 this season and second in the NFC East table just behind the Philadelphia Eagles. With only 7 teams poised to go to the playoffs from each conference, the Cowboys must muster up their bench strength if they want to make it. With this season-defining injury on their hands, can they hold up long enough to reserve a spot in the playoffs?

The Dallas Cowboys receive a terrifying blow

The 27-year-old LB was the Cowboys’ first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He suffered a gruesome neck injury against the San Franciso 49ers during the Week 5 game. Esch was expected to be back by this week, but that didn’t turn out to be the case!

Now Esch’s season is over with this injury, and his career is in jeopardy too. The Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones said, “We had just completely left it up to how he was evolving. But of course, it’s such a very significant loss for us”. It seems the Cowboys’ defence, which has been underwhelming on numerous occasions this season, will be further burdened.

The Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has been impressing from the front, but without Esch, the defensive anchor has been missing. And Jerry Jones also has the same impression, as he said, “He’s (Esch) an integral part of that defense out there”. Now as the Texas team goes to North Carolina for their next fixture, they’ll hope to win without any fumbles.

The Cowboys go near the Panthers

After thrashing the New York Giants 49-17 in their Week 9 game at home. They are on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium for their Week 10 game. With the Panthers (1-8) struggling on both sides of the ball, this is a great opportunity for the Cowboys to showcase their brilliance.

With only a few games left in the regular season, each game has a heightened importance. And this applies to all the teams, irrespective of their positioning within the conference. Though each game has a different meaning for each team, they are crucial, nonetheless.

The Panthers will look for a win to have a respectable season score and a better trading opportunity for the 2024 NFL Draft. While the Cowboys are vowing to secure a playoff spot with this win. Whatever happens, this game is sure to produce fireworks!
