It’s not a good feeling when your own team members turn against you. However, that’s exactly what’s happening with Dak Prescott. Or rather, the families of his teammates have turned against him. Obviously some criticism was expected after the playoffs debacle. The Cowboys crashed out of the playoffs in their very first game. What does that say about a team that had generated so much hype?

And when it came to pointing fingers, two people were in the crosshairs: HC Mike McCarthy and QB Dak Prescott. There were even rumors that McCarthy had already been shown the door. However, it was later revealed that it was untrue. Jerry Jones still trusts McCarthy. But what about his QB? Is his job on the line?

After the sword passed over the HC’s head, it came for Dak. Imagine getting blasted by the famine members of your own teammates! THE ODD COUPLE podcast brought these criticisms together. And it wasn’t a pretty sight. First up, Lita Ramirez. She’s the mother of wideout CeeDee Lamb. She was clearly not pleased with Prescott sinking her son’s team’s Super Bowl dreams. And she did not hold back. Ramirez took to Facebook to vent. “DAK ISNT IT,” she wrote in full caps. And then underneath the post, also added, “They need to get rid of his a*s”

However, we wish we could say that was it. The next came from LB, Micah Parsons’ brother, Terrence. His forum was Instagram. “I am questioning your future,” he ranted on a picture of the QB. “Take 40 million or pack your bags” His ultimatum? Reduce your contract value or get out of Dallas! And the last one came from the most unexpected quarter. The 30-year-old’s own brother wanted him out of the Cowboys. “Why you continue to DM me trust me if I could get Dak to leave Dallas I would I too want him out of Dallas”.

And where was Jerry Jones while all of this happening? He maintained a deathly silence. He had come out in support of Mike McCarthy. But for Dak? Crickets. And now the question follows: can the Cowboys get rid of their QB?

What does the future look like for Dak?

It’s hard to believe, honestly. From NFL MVP frontrunner to being viciously trolled in a matter of weeks. That’s the NFL for you. There’s nothing permanent here. Now, the Cowboys find themselves in a bit of a financial chess game with Dak Prescott’s contract. According to Michael Gehlken, the Cowboys, in their pursuit of cap space salvation, have thrown in a couple of void years (2025 and 2026) into his 4-year, $160M deal. This sneaky maneuver allows them to convert his salary into a signing bonus.

What’s in it for them? It’ll give them some much-needed cap breathing room and financial flexibility. If this plan materializes, Prescott’s cap number could take a dip from a whopping $59.46M to a more manageable $40.93M. In the process, Dallas would carve out a cool $18.53M in cap room. Not a bad move.

That’s the only way to salvage the situation because they can’t cut him. With the 24th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, snagging a potential replacement QB seems like a long shot. By that point, the best QBs would be off the board. It looks like they’re going to have to stick with him for the foreseeable future.
