Can K.J. Henry fill the massive shoes of Parsons and Lawrence for the Cowboys?

The week 4 game between the Cowboys and the Giants was wild. After DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons got injured, Jerry Jones was being asked only one question. Is he going to bring some free agency talent? He repeatedly denied that before making a 180 reverse. The recent news will spin your mind as well.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that the Cowboys have signed defensive end KJ Henry from the Bengals‘ practice squad. He was earning $300k in salary there. The exact amount for the deal hasn’t been disclosed yet. More details will be divulged once the deal is finalized.

Henry, the 5th-round Commanders’ pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, played 10 games in his rookie season. And he was fine. With 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks, the DE stayed there till August 2024. When they released him before the final roster cuts, the Bengals claimed him.

However, that too didn’t last long. He played only 2 games for the Bangles. In the season opener against the New England Patriots, KJ Henry had 2 snaps. The DE was more in play against the Chiefs, with a 16.7% pressure rate. That includes one pressure against Patrick Mahomes as well. At Cowboys, he will have a much bigger role.

With injuries to the major defensive players, he is required to work in tandem with the in-house talent.

The America’s Team is doing everything they can to get on a winning spree. They have already included Marshawn Kneeland, Chauncey Golston, and Tyrus Wheat on the 53-man roster. Golston has 1 sack in his career so far (in week 2 game against Saints). Wheat and Kneeland haven’t recorded a sack yet, but they give much-needed depth to the defense.

Until both players return, Jerry Jones’ team will have to manage. While Parsons might return by the week 7 from high left ankle sprain, DeMarcus Lawrence is out for a much longer period with injured right foot. He is set to miss 4-8 weeks of action and might get put on the Injured Reserve (IR) list anytime.

The rookie, Kneeland, isn’t fazed by the injuries and ready to step up. While talking about the players, he said, “We know that seeing them go down, obviously none of us wanted that to happen. Now we all got to come together and play for each other.” That’s high energy. It would be great if the team can carry it to the field as well.
